Lautaro Martínez: “I was expecting more than 7th position at the Ballon d’Or”

Lautaro Martínez spoke about finishing in seventh place in the Ballon d’Or voting.

Martínez ranked seventh place in the Ballon d’Or, despite having a solid season. The Agentine won the Copa America with the Argentina national team, scoring the goal in the final which won the team the trophy and also finished as the Copa America top scorer.

With Inter, he won Serie A, while being named the Serie A MVP and top scorer. Speaking in an interview with DAZN, here is what Lautaro had to say:

“To be honest, I was expecting more than 7th position at the Ballon d’Or. Sometimes at these awards they are unfair”.

“I”ll be working hard to improve that position.”

Martínez had a goal and an assist for Inter in their win. With the score at 1-0, Lautaro played a back heel to Davide Frattesi who scoreed to give Inter the 2-0 lead.

At 2-0, Barella played a pass in the penalty area to Lautaro and the Argentine would score to make it 3-0 for Inter.

Alejandro Garnacho scored for Manchester United in their 5-2 win vs. Leicester City.

Garnacho made it six goals and and four assists in 15 games, scoring in Manchester United’s win. With the score at 1-0, the ball was played across the penalty area and to Garnacho, who scored to give United the 2-0 lead.

Pep Guardiola on the Ballon d’Or: “Messi was a monster”

Pep Guardiola spoke about Lionel Messi winning the Ballon d’Or in previous years.

Guardiola coached Lionel Messi when he won the Ballon d’Or with FC Barcelona and he now coaches Rodri, the most recent winner of the Ballon d’Or. Speaking at a perss conference on Tuesday, here is what the Manchester City coach had to say about the trophy:

“I remember 3 La Masia players were nominated for the Ballon d’Or. Xavi and Iniesta could not win because Messi was a monster. Cristiano was a monster too and the father of the monster is Messi.”

Lionel Messi has congratulated the winners at the Ballon d’Or ceremony and the nomineed.

Messi was not at the Ballon d’Or ceremony but the eight time winner did post on social media congratulating those that were at the ceremony. He took to his Instagram and posted a picture of Emiliano Martínez and Lautaro Martínez together.

Here is what he wrote:

“Congratulations to all the winners and nominees for the Ballon d’Or 2024. Especially to Dibu, what a great, another award for the best goalkeeper in the world. And to Lautaro, to Leo (Scaloni) and Ale (Garnacho).”
