NEWS: Injury Updates

Hey everyone,

Wow what a game last night!  It’s nice to see us perform like that, isn’t it? We definitely deserve to be in this final again that’s for sure.  Anyhow, the news is that DI MARIA has practiced normally with the rest of the team this morning without any issues.  He actually scored a few golazos!   He is doing a lot better than GAITAN who may or may not be ready as he is still being evaluated.  AUGUSTO FERNANDEZ is out and will not return and it doesn’t look like PASTORE is available either.  The word is that MARCOS ROJO will recover and will be available for the final as well.  We all know what happened to poor LAVEZZI.  He was having a great game too!  It’s pretty much now just up to Tata.

VAMOS ARGENTINA!!

Ezequiel LAVEZZI, FERNANDEZ out for the final

Ezequiel LAVEZZI and Augusto FERNANDEZ are both out for the Copa America final on Sunday.

Ezequiel LAVEZZI suffered a shoulder injury during the semi-final match after flipping over the advertisement boards and is required to have surgery.

Initial test results are stating that Augusto FERNANDEZ seems to have a muscle tear. He said after the match that he is out for the final.

Marcos ROJO is questionable for the final as reports have him with an overburdened left thigh muscle.

Angel DI MARIA who made the bench for the semi-finals should be fit to play the final on Sunday. Tata MARTINO has stated that physically, DI MARIA is doing better than Nicolas GAITAN.

Lionel MESSI: “We played a perfect match”

Lionel MESSI commented on the win, becoming the National Team’s all time leading goalscorer and the final on Sunday.

Here’s what he had to say:

Lionel MESSI:
“Everyone’s dream is that it happens and we win the trophy for once and for all. We deserve it for what we’ve done.”

“I’m happy for having surpassed BATISTUTA’s record and I’d like to thank my team mates as this one is theirs too.”

“The free kick, I put it there. After that, whether it goes in or not is another story.”

“It’s a pity about LAVEZZI’s injury, Augusto FERNANDEZ’s as well but the team is very strong.”

“We played a perfect match against the United States and we have to try and repeat that on Sunday.”

Tata MARTINO: “We dominated the match”

Tata MARTINO and Gonzalo HIGUAIN spoke to the media following Argentina’s 4-0 semi-final win.

MARTINO spoke about the win, MESSI, the team and more. Here’s what he had to say:

Tata MARTINO:
“Our worry was about winning the match against the United States and to get ourselves positioned in the same place we were in a year ago.”

“The team was very solid, generous, prepared very well, we’re happy with the performance in general. We dominated the match during the entire 90 minutes.”

“It makes me happy that MESSI surpassed BATI’s record but knowing him, he’s more happy for the team. It’s very good that the best player in the world is also the National Team’s all time leading goal scorer.”

“It was necessary to get to the final but we never got a head of ourselves. We always took it one match at a time.”

“We pressed and prepared very well. We should do that against teams which do that better, like Chile.”

Gonzalo HIGUAIN:
“We have another final coming up and we don’t want it to slip. We’re very much happy. To play three consecutive finals is not easy and this group has to break the drought.”

Match highlights: Argentina 4 – 0 United States

Argentina have defeated the United States and are in the final of the Copa America!

Ezequiel LAVEZZI scored for Argentina and Gonzalo HIGUAIN scored twice but it was Lionel MESSI’s free kick goal which stole the show. An incredible free kick driven into the top corner of the net was easily the goal of the night as Argentina have made the final!
