Reason why Cholo SIMEONE turn down Argentina

7

Diego SIMEONE spoke to Spanish radio Oando Cero on why he turned down the opportunity manage Argentina following Tata MARTINO’s exit last summer.

“I will say this again, one of the ideas I have in my head is to coach Argentina but not right now”.

The reason

“I am the type of coach that wants to be on the pitch daily and the national team doesn’t offer that. The time between Copa América and the World Cup is too long, although I will not deny that whenever I listen to the Argentine National anthem in one of those competitions, that feeling of being there starts to appear”.

In February, current coach Edgardo BAUZA was in Madrid to talk to the Argentine players in the Atletico team but also took the opportunity to chat with Cholo. From what he has heard, the working environment within the National Team didn’t appeal to him but felt time was on his side.

He compared himself to Vicente del BOSQUE, who at age 58 became the coach of Spain, a later on guided them to World Cup glory.

“Today I feel like I have to improve as a coach. I would like to become the national team coach one with a very different emotional tranquility. It might get bigger, although it is necessary to see if they (AFA) still want me at the moment”.

Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO: “It’s not revenge”

Atlanta United coach Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO has commented on Argentina’s upcoming match against Chile.

The former Argentina National Team coach spoke about whether or not Argentina’s World Cup Qualifier against Chile will be seen as a revenge or not. Speaking to Radio Agricultura, MARTINO, who lost back to back finals to Chile had this to say:

Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO:

“If it’s revenge? They asked me that same question when we played the opening match at the Copa Centenario, which luckily we won and I can say that no, it wasn’t a revenge and this one likely won’t be either. It’s revenge for nothing, the finals were lost and nothing can be done to get them back.

Tata is currently coaching Atlanta United in their first season in North America’s MLS.

Argentina rumored eleven against Chile

With players beginning to arrive to Argentina and training with the team, there are already reports of a possible starting eleven.

Edgardo BAUZA will have to do without Pablo ZABALETA for both of his team’s World Cup Qualifying matches against Chile and Bolivia and he might have to do without Paulo DYBALA as well.

The absence of the Manchester City man will mean that Sevilla’s Gabriel MERCADO gets the start at right back. In the center back position, a suspension to Everton’s Ramiro FUNES MORI has apparently opened the door for Manchester United’s Marcos ROJO to start alongside Manchester City’s Nicolas OTAMENDI, partnering him in the center of the defense. ROJO has done very well this season for his club while playing in his more natural position.

The injury to Paulo DYBALA will mean that one of Sergio AGUERO or Ever BANEGA will start in his place. Per Ole, here is the rumored line-up:

Argentina starting eleven:

Romero; Mercado, Otamendi, Rojo, Mas; Biglia, Mascherano; Messi, Banega/Aguero, Di Maria; Higuain

Six players have yet ti arrive and will be arriving on Tuesday. Those players being Lionel MESSI, Javier MASCHERANO, Angel DI MARIA, Paulo DYBALA and Enzo PEREZ.
