Argentina vs. Peru: Match preview

Argentina get ready to play a combative Peru side in Lima on Thursday night.

With injuries hitting the likes of Lionel MESSI, Augusto FERNANDEZ and Lucas BIGLIA, Edgardo BAUZA has had to make some modifications to his starting eleven.

Matias KRANEVITTER starts alongside Javier MASCHERANO, who will be wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Lionel MESSI. The other change in the line-up sees the returns of both Gonzalo HIGUAIN and Sergio AGUERO who both missed out on the matches in September.

All eyes will be on the attack and most notably on Paulo DYBALA as he will start in MESSI’s position on the right wing.

Here’s the line-up:

ROMERO; ZABALETA, OTAMENDI, FUNES MORI, ROJO; MASCHERANO, KRANEVITTER; DYBALA, AGUERO, DI MARIA; HIGUAIN

The Albiceleste enter the round in third place (tied on points with second place Brazil). Peru are in before last place themselves.

The team will look to get maximum points this time around after having defeated Uruguay 1-0 at home but a lackluster performance against last place Venezuela saw the team having to come back from being 2-0 down to draw 2-2 to get a point.

Peru head into this round having lost 2-0 to Bolivia in La Paz but got maximum points against Ecuador at home.

The match is at 10:15pm Tuesday night Eastern time, 7:15pm west coast (California), 3:15am Friday morning in London, England.

Gonzalo HIGUAIN speaks up!

32

Hey everyone,

Here are some of HIGUAIN’s latest quotes.  He’s said this after all the criticism he had received in the last few months.

“I get criticized for failing on a one-on-one, but i’ll never doubt what I am.  I was really unlucky with what happened. There’s people that lay bricks incorrectly and I don’t say anything; I know very well what I did.”

“Truthfully, I’m very relaxed, and only appreciate and value the people who bend over backwards for me, and those who haven’t been following me for only the past two years.”

“I didn’t get professional help, but I clearly went through a bad time and I cried. We’re people and we suffer. Our families suffer even more. Seeing my mom sad kills me. You say what for? She doesn’t deserve that because of everything she’s done and fought for me.”

“They were difficult times.  Things go through your mind, but obviously that stays private.  You speak with your most intimate individuals, but I never thought of quitting the national team.  I came back because I’m happy.  I have support from the coach and my teammates. I’m happy for this support.  The guys helped me and that is what made me be here.”

“I have the same right to live like everyone else.  Football is my life, but there’s other important things too.  People have the right to their opinions and are free to insult and criticize.  If that’s what makes them happy so be it, but in my humble opinion, we’re all humans before players.”

“We don’t do things incorrectly because we want to.  We didn’t do things that poorly as we made it three finals in four years.”

So what do you guys think? Does Pipita deserve one final chance? Or do you want him out for good?
