In the 26th minute, the Argentine left-back headed the ball down from near the penalty spot after a corner kick, sending it past the goalkeeper to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The former Independiente player was later substituted off in the 81st minute.

Giovani Lo Celso scored for Real Betis in their 2-2 home draw against FC Barcelona on matchday 16 of La Liga.

In the 68th minute, Betis was awarded a penalty. The Argentine midfielder took it, beating Barcelona’s goalkeeper Iñaki Peña who had gone to the same spot, making it 1-1.

Lo Celso reached his sixth goal, second from the penalty spot, in this season of La Liga. The Argentine Ezequiel “Chimi” Ávila also started in the “Verdiblancos.”

Argentina in Group B for U20 South American Championship

Argentina have been drawn in Group B at the U20 South American Championship.

The draw for the tournament has taken place and Argentina is in Group B with Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia. Taking place between January 23 and February 16, it will take place in Venezuela.

It will also serve as qualification for the 2025 U20 World Cup, as the top four teams will qualify for the tournament in Chile. Here are the groups:

Group A: Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile and Peru

Group B: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia

Lionel Messi has been named the 2024 Landon Donovan MLS MVP.

Messi continues to add another trophy to his cabinet. The 37 year old was named as the league’s Most Valuable Player on Friday.

The Argentine scored 20 goals and had 16 assists in 19 league matches. He also helped Inter Miami win the Supporters’ Shield award.

FIFA Club World Cup draw, Boca Juniors, River Plate and Lionel Messi with Inter Miami

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup draw took place and Boca Juniors are drawn in Group C, River Plate in Groupe E and Lionel Messi with Inter Miami in Group A.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will take part in the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time, having been drawn with Palmeiras of Brazil, FC Porto of Portugal and Al Ahly of Egypt. Boca Juniors are in Group C with Bayern Munich of Germany, Auckland City of Australia and Benfica of Portugal.

River Plate are in Group E with Urawa Red DIamonds of Japan, MOnterrey of Mexico and Inter of Italy. For River Plate, current coach Marcelo Gallardo will be up against former River Plate coach Martín Demichelis of Monterrey.

Held in the United States, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will take place between June 15 and July 13 in 11 host cities.
