Claudio Echeverri scored a hattrick for Argetnina U17 vs. Brazil in the quarter finals of the World Cup.

Echeverri stole the show scoring three goals for Argentina in their 3-0 win vs. Brazil. Echeverri received the ball and ran towards the Brazilian goal, releasing an effort which took a deflection and chipped the goalkeeper to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.

The 17 year old would score his second goal in the second half. He would dribble beyond Brazilian players and score from a difficult angle.

Argentina would have a foot in the semi finals with Echeverri’s third goal. He would be played one on one against the Brazilian goalkeeper and Echeverri would dribble him the way Claudio Caniggia did in 1990 against Brazil and Echeverri would score his third goal of the match.

Diego Placente’s team will play Germany on Tuesday in the semi finals.

Ángel Di María announces retirement from Argentina team after Copa America

Ángel Di María has announced that he will retire from the Argentina national team after the Copa America.

Di María posted on his Instagram thanking that he will be retiring from Argentina after the 2024 Copa America in the United States. The 35 year old first played for Argentina in September 2008 and has since gone on to win the World Cup, the Copa America and the Finalissima.

Scoring in all three finals, Di María also scored in the 2008 Olympic final where Argentina won gold. He was also part of the 2007 U20 World Cup team which won the World Cup. He has played 136 matches for Argentina, scoring 29 goals.

Nicolás Otamendi included in CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifying team

Nicolás Otamendi has been included in CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifying team of the week.

Otamendi is the only Argentine included in the team. Uruguay and Colombia both have four players with Peru having one and Ecuador having one.

The goalkeeper is Alexander Dominguez of Ecuador, the back line has Matias Vina and Ronald Araujo of Uruguay and Yerry Mina of Colombia. In midfield and attack it’s Yoshimar Yotun of Peru, Kevin Castano, James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz of Colombia and Nicolas De La Cruz and Darwin Nunez of Uruguay.

Leandro Paredes comments on Argentina win vs. Brazil, Lionel Scaloni, Argentina fans

Leandro Paredes commented on Argentina’s win vs. Brazil, Lionel Scaloni possibly stepping down as coach and the fight involving the Brazilian police and the Argentina fans.

Paredes was brought on as a substitute for Argentina against Brazil and the Argentine spoke to the media after the match. Here is what he had to say:

“We have to play it down. We have to see what the coach thinks, we will surely talk about it when the time comes but we are happy for what we have achieved. We made history again, let’s enjoy it.

“We think about ourselves. We don’t care about our opponents, we think about ourselves and I think we did things well.

“Beyond the result against Uruguay, I think we got up in the best way, as we always did, winning in Brazil and making history again. We really enjoyed everything that has happened with the people, it was to give them an answer, our support by winning in Brazil.”

He was also asked about Lionel Scaloni’s comments of him possibly resigning as coach of the Argentina national team:

“We didn’t talk to Scaloni. We are aware he’s the head of the group, let’s hope he stays there, that he makes the decision to stay because he is very important. He will have his reasons but we are more than grateful. Let’s hope he changes his mind and stays with us.”

The Argentine was asked about the Brazilian police attacking the Argentina fans:

“Unfortunately, what happens outside is transferred onto the pitch and it is not good for that to happen.”

Nicolás Otamendi spoke about Lionel Scaloni possible stepping down as coach of the Argentina national team.

Otamendi scored for Argentina in their 1-0 win vs. Brazil and coach Lionel Scaloni announced at a press conference after the match that he could be leaving as coach of Argentina. Otamendi spoke to TyC Sports after the match about Scaloni’s comments:

“We have to talk about it. Words are now superfluous, I think we have to talk about it personally and obviously communicate with him. We received the information and well, we will try to talk about it and see what happens.

“There were a lot of guys who had not entered the locker room. He usually gives a talk when we are all inside but there were some who were doing the doping test. Fideo (Ángel Di María) was doping, Leo (Messi) was undergoing treatment, so we were not all together. But afterwards, we will surely have a conversation.”
