Enzo Fernández spoke about the World Cup qualifiers with the Argentina national team.

Fernández won the World Cup with the Argentina national team and won the Best Young Player of the tournament but he has never played a World Cup qualifying match. Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports, here is what he had to say about the qualifiers:

“A new path begins, the commitment remains the same, we enjoyed the past a lot, we know that becoming world champions is not easy. The qualifiers are very important matches for us and to continue showing that we are ready for great things.”

He was also asked about the different positions he plays with Argentina and at his club Chelsea:

“They are different positions, I’m playing a little further forward, it doesn’t change anything. I don’t have a problem, it’s a big difference. As a five, you have to stay more with the defenders.

“The important thing is that all those chosen by him (Lionel Scaloni) are here, we are in the best shape and we are going to work for the qualifiers, which are important.”

On what Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni told the players:

“The qualifiers are always important, we are always going to represent Argentina in the best way. He told us that a new path starts, that the past had passed, with all the desire and mentality to give more to the national team. Ecuador is a great team, physically they are very good.”

Regarding Lionel Messi:

“Nothing is surprising about him, he looks happier, enjoying his family, very happy for him.”

“He always goes for more. He never leaves you. He always surprises you, he goes for more. You can imagine it. How can I not imagine it? I would like him to be there. With the conditions he has, he could easily play in the 2026 World Cup.

“Modric does it for his team, Iniesta did it for Barcelona. It depends on him, on what he feels. I see him playing in the World Cup, playing in the position he wants. He can really do it. It will depend on what he wants. I dream about that too.

“He is happy with the national team, coming to the facility. He is very happy with the group of team mates, with the coaching staff. I am fortunate to have the relationship I have with him. It is a relationship of affection.”

Tapia also spoke about his relationship with Messi:

“We share and talk about what we see in the future, what the next commitments are and how we see them. This is what we do with many of the boys. I love to see him doing well, to see him with new challenges and to keep winning things. He played seven games and became champion.

“If he is well, you feel well. We share things because we feel it, it is not forced. You feel really proud and blessed to have the relationship with him.”
