The Argentina national team have clinched a playoff spot for the 2026 World Cup and need one point to qualify.
Lionel Scaloni’s team guaranteed a playoff spot at the 2026 World Cup following the 1-0 win against Uruguay. The reigning World Cup champions presently lead the South American World Cup qualifiers with 28 points and Bolivia, who are in a playoff spot, are 13 points.
Argentina need one point to secure a World Cup place and they play Brazil on Tuesday.
Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has spoken about the team, the 1-0 win against Uruguay, Thiago Almada and the match against Brazil.
Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference after the team’s 1-0 win against Uruguay. Here is what he had to say:
“On the right side they created some situations for us, in the second half we corrected and we played a different game. I was satisfied, not because I won, but because of the way the team performed.
“The team played a complete game, absorbed the pressure from the crowd. When we had to play, we did it and when we had to score, we did it too.”
Scaloni also commented on the team itself:
“The National Team is a team. When one is missing, the other comes in. We had some very important absentees but we have great players to go out on the field.
“The team is always more than just the names. Fortunately, we can put players in and the team doesn’t suffer.”
Regarding the goal scorer, Thiago Almada:
“Thiago scored a beautiful goal, he is growing a lot and is playing what the team wants. That is the most important thing.
“We would have liked Thiago not to have had to run backwards, but we had to close the gaps.”
In regards to the match against Brazil on Tuesday:
“We have to endure whatever comes and know how to take advantage of the moments. This team knew how to take advantage of it.
“De Paul is going to arrive so he can play against Brazil.”
Almada was part of the starting eleven for Argentina and scored a great goal to give Argentina the 1-0 win. Speaking to the media after the match, here is what he had to say:
“I was a little anxious, eager to play and to show why I had been called up. I’m learning a lot and I’m trying to adapt as best I can.
“It was a very difficult game, but we did things right and got the win. We struggled at first until we settled in, began to control the ball and find space.”
“Now to rest well and wait for the match against Brazil.”
Leandro Paredes spoke about Argentina’s 1-0 win against Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers and the match against Brazil.

“We knew they were going to come out with a lot of intensity, pressing high, but we were able to turn things around.
“Against any opponent you always have to try to play your best.
“One prepares oneself day by day to always try to contribute and give one hundred percent.”
He also commented on the players that were not part of the team due to injuries:
“It’s always strange not to have the players who were absent today, but fortunately we didn’t notice the difference. Hopefully we can continue to improve and do it in the best way.”
The Argentine comemnted on the match against Brazil on Tuesday:
“We will face one of the best teams in the world, hopefully we can do our best.”
Thiago Almada would score a stunning goal for Argentina in their 1-0 win vs. Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers.
The first half saw Uruguay having much of the ball but unable to capitalize on any chances. Argentina created one chance with Giuliano Simeone crossing into the penalty area with Alexis Mac Allister making the run which was stopped by the goalkeeper.
Lionel Scaloni’s team would start the second half and would create chances. A through ball by Julian Alvarez found Thiago Almada but the goalkeeper would come out and close the angle on Almada’s effort on goal.
At 0-0, Julián Álvarez would play a pass to Almada and the Argentine’s effort on goal from outside of the penalty area would go into the top corner to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.
Scaloni would bring on Nicolás González on for Giuliano Simeone, Exequiel Palacios for Alexis Mac Allister, Leonardo Balerdi for Leandro Paredes and Ángel Correa on for Thiago Almada.
Nicolás González would get a red card towards the end of the match. He would go for the ball but miss it and accidentaly kick Nandez in the face.
Argentina would get the 1-0 win and will play Brazil on Tuesday.
