Papu Gomez extends contract with Serie A side Atalanta

Papu GOMEZ has extended his stay with Atalanta despite rumours linking him with a move away to Lazio and Napoli. His current contract will keep him at the club until 2022.

Atalanta President Antonio PERCASSI was very happy that GOMEZ has agreed to the new contract today.

“We continue together, we’re very happy. He’s the tip of our diamond. This renewal shows we really believe in him because of what he’s done for us and we’ll sure he’ll be a great example to the youngsters and the whole squad”.

Meanwhile, here’s what GOMEZ had to say:

“I am very happy to continue wearing this shirt, in a city like Bergamo. I am anxious to start, we are waiting for a great season”.

Last season, the attacking midfielder scored 16 goals in Serie A which helped the club to qualify for the Europa League next season.

    • I love pipita dearly and I’m thankful for all the big contributions he’s made for the NT but at the same time I think he’s mentally ‘cracked’ as they say and don’t think he’s NT material anymore.

  1. Acuna oficially in Sporting Lisbon. To see Acuna, Battaglia and Alan Ruiz together in midfield would be exciting.

      • This is good move for ALejandro Gomez. He will not gets better if go to one of the strongest clubs in Europe while would deregulate his optimal form if must strive for place in starting eleven. At the moment he is at his best and don’t think he will give us more in NT if left Atalanta for big club. Feel comfort is more important here for mentall condition than chase for fame. Atalanta is currently like Fiorentina of Batistuta. Could do better for NT Batistuta if left Fiorentina for better club? I don’t think so.

          • Gomez staying in Atlanta is a smart move IMO. He had a break out season and Atlanta has a good youth set up so things might get even better for him this season instead of risking going to another club only to start from scratch and risk his place in the WC.

Acuna to sporting is a good stepping stone, like Gonzalo said he’ll be with battaglia and ruiz and if he goes the Dimaria route he can establish himself in Portugal only to move to bigger and better things in the future.

  2. Last night Independiente beat Deportes Iquique 4:2 in Copa Sudamericana. CB Alan Franco – called up by Sampaoli – had goal and assist. Rigoni – also called up- assist. Barco goal.

Yesterday Huracan lost to Libertad 1:5 and Atletico Tucuman beat Oriente Petrolero 3:2.
