Giovanni SIMEONE spoke about who his idols are and his goals for the season.
Newly signed Fiorentina player Giovanni SIMEONE has come out and commented about his personal growth, who his idols are and much more. The son of current Atletico Madrid coach and Copa America winner Diego SIMEONE gave his thoughts on La Viola legend Gabriel BATISTUTA and Inter captain Mauro ICARDI stating that the latter is his idol. Here’s what he had to say:
Giovanni SIMEONE:
“Every Argentinian that has played for this great team has ended up being a great player. I know I have to bide my time. I have to work to get to know my teammates better, but with confidence I know I can become great in my five years here.
“BATISTUTA? I want to be SIMEONE, although he and ICARDI are great players. ICARDI’s an idol of mine, who deserves his [Argentina] call-up, and I hope to become like them.
“My dad always spoke well about Italy to me. When I played in Argentina, he wanted me to play here and when I signed for Fiorentina, he told me they’re a good team. He always told me that the great Bati played here.
“Where to improve? In a lot of areas. I’m 22 and I hope to become great here. Objectives? I have a personal and team objective of finishing as high as possible, near the top, and scoring 12 goals.
“Why my transfer took so long? These are market things, agreements between clubs and my representatives. I wanted to grow, even though we did well for the first six months at Genoa. I consider it a step forward, a challenge for myself.”
Former River Plate team mate German PEZZELLA signing for Fiorentina:
“He’s a great player, I’ve known him for three years. He’s used to playing for big clubs and he’ll do well here.”
SIMEONE joined Fiorentina following an €18m transfer from Genoa earlier last week.
