Inter Milan and Argentina striker Lautaro Martínez has suffered a setback in his recovery after reinjuring the soleus muscle in his left leg, the club confirmed on Friday. The news comes just days after the forward had returned to action following a seven-week absence.
According to Inter Milan, medical examinations revealed a slight muscular strain in the same area that had previously sidelined the Argentine. The club added that Martínez’s condition will be reassessed in the coming days, leaving uncertainty around his short-term availability.
The 28-year-old had made an immediate impact upon his return, scoring twice in Inter’s 5-2 victory over Roma last weekend. However, concerns quickly resurfaced after he showed signs of discomfort during the match, later confirmed to be a relapse of the injury originally sustained on February 18 in the UEFA Champions League clash against Bodo/Glimt.
Martínez is now expected to miss upcoming Serie A matches against Como and Cagliari, as well as the Coppa Italia semifinal second leg.
The timing of the injury is far from ideal. With Inter leading the Serie A title race and pushing for a third Scudetto in recent years, Martínez’s presence has been crucial throughout the campaign. The Argentine striker has been one of the standout performers of the 2025–26 season, registering 20 goals and four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Beyond club football, the setback also raises concerns for the Argentina national team, with the 2026 World Cup just two months away.
Despite the setback, Martínez moved quickly to reassure fans. Taking to social media after the diagnosis, he posted a message that reflected both frustration and determination: “And again… time to push forward,” making it clear he remains focused on returning stronger ahead of the World Cup.

I know its to late to integrate but Troilo from Parma seems the most closest thing to Cuti Romero. Physical, agressive, good defensively and with the ball too. After the WC we have to integrate him, Anselmino, Lautaro Rivero and others.
This is by far the most concerning injury for Argentina since 2022 wcup. The Dibu injury seems not serious and Lautaro also needs some rest, anyways they are out of UCL. Hope he recovers well. I was happy during the 2024 copa america that now we have a pairing of cuti and licha and both can play for 5 years more easily with good backups like Senesi, Balerdi, Foyth, Medina but both of them now are picking up injuries regularly and the back ups are also not impressing. Get well soon Cuti
Lautaro’s injury is not that serious, I am much more worried about Cuti. He is a pillar and a must, without him our defense is significantly weaker. Who can even replace him, aging Otamendi, error prone Balerdi? I don’t think so…
Yeah. Another thing is somewhat good in one sense if the injury is not severe. Coz playing for spurs in these insignificant matches is just always a danger. Both due to the playing style of cuti and the new coach de zerbi. Also cuti will look for another club next season. I pray and hope that cuti comes back with a bang in the world cup. I still remember he was weak in the first game against saudi and was injured. And not started against Mexico. And this injury may be blessing in disguise. He is a champion. Wants to win all the time. Rest is upto God.
“Necessity is the mother of invention”
I’d rather see them injured now than during the WC, it’s time to solidify plan B Mr. Scaloni🤷
I always believe its all part of God’s plan. Cuti has to be there. His club season was not good due to that team. And he wants redemption. He would be unbreakable. Waiting for cuti in that blue and white jersey with the sun shining in his face.
How is cuti injury? Any thing serious?
