Argentina line-up confirmed, Lautaro Martinez to start up front

1. What is the natural position of this nicolas gonzalez. Is he a creative player. According to sofa score, he can play anywhere on the front three. I don’t follow bundesliga, so I don’t have much information about him.

   • I don’t know him too much either. But from my knowledge, he is more of a right winger in a front 3 than a CAM.

2. I don’t like acuna as Left Back in a 4 men backline.
   I think the best way to utilize his workrate and skills is by using a 3_5_2 form of set up. With Tagliafico, Foyth & a CB filling the 3 men backline, probably Otamendi.

3. I think going forward our lineup should be something like this. A form of 352 with wingbacks.
   Like we saw against Germany.
   Foyth Lisandro Tagliafico
   Paredes
   Ocompas/pavon Palacios De paul Acuna
   messi
   Lautaro
   This can shift to a 4231 and even a 442 midgame as the players are very versatile. Foyth can move to right and acuna can drop to left back position. Ocompas although an attacking player will track back and defend if required. Pavon, on the other hand, can play against weaker opponents. Him and Acuna can cause havoc on the wings ad both of them are terrific crossers. This will also reduce the defensive duties of paredes as lisandro will play as a libero and can play the destroyer role. I think it will be better both offensively and defensively. Let’s see what Scaloni does.

4. Not a bad lineup, Some core players like Lautaro, DePaul and Paredes mixed with potential core players like Manchersin and Foyth, then the addition of 2 deserving players (Ocampos and Alario) and finally testing whether Nico Tagliafico is infact the best option at LB (he is infact but he can’t be left exposed like the last game).
   Nico Gonzalez is talented but honestly he hasn’t done enough to be in the senior team, heck his performance in the U23 (pan american games) wasn’t all that convincing either.
   I would like another Nico (Dominguez that is) to be next to Paredes and push DePaul to his best position on the far left of the midfield where he gets to cut from the inside and fire a canon shot, something like this:

   ——DePaul————–Paredes————Dominguez—————Ocampos

   • i agree with most of this.

     i’m surprised scaloni does not seem interested in pairing paredes with dominguez a bit more and still wants to develop depaul there more.

     i would have liked to see the same names in midfield that you have. but i do think i want depaul on right still. My main argument is it doesn’t matter in these friendlies if he can score from his favored left position or not because when messi returns its only depaul who showed he can cover for him on the right and for that he needs to continue developing chemistry with paredes. however not next to him but in front of him. and then dominguez can be subbed/replaced out with palacios/locelso later. so we could get a bit more stable spine in this way.

     gonzalez could have easily been given 20-30 minutes in second half instead.

     • Oh De paul can play anywhere and I mean ANYWHERE, remarkably versatile player but I want him on the left because that’s where he’s best.

5. I find it fascinating that every game DePaul position for scaloni gets deeper and deeper and more and more central. Soon he will be a libero in this team at this rate lol!

   • This looks like a 4-4-2

     • Yeah, i’m just joking.

   • I was pretty surprised to see him play so deep too, especially in the game against Germany (second midfielder in a 4-2-3-1). The problem with De Paul is that he is not quite fast enough to be a winger but he can dribble a bit and can shoot from range. I think playing as a box-to-box would fit him perfectly.

6. I think this more balanced lineup as compared to vs Germany in first half. Both nico Gonzalez and ocampos are natural wide midfielders and wingers. So in my opinion this should work.
