Franco Armani, Gonzalo Montiel, Julian Alvarez called to Argentina team for World Cup qualifiers

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has called-up the River Plate trio of Franco Armani, Gonzalo Montiel and Julian Alvarez to the squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

With the European based squad already having been announced, Scaloni has added three local based players to the team. A goalkeeper in Armani, a defender in Montiel and an attack minded player in Alvarez.

No player from Boca Juniors or any other club in Argentina has been selected, which means no Esteban Andrada in the squad.

The team will play Chile at home on June 3 before playing Colombia away on 8, just five days later. Here is the updated squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers:

  4. We think that Emiliano is better, but may be the NT Goal keeping coach is seeing something else in Armani, that’s why he is always been chosen, they have better confidence in his ability. Its fine as long as we keep on winning, hopefully Emiliano will play for us one day.

    Also I think emi martinez has real possibility that he will start ahead of Armani now. Scaloni choices of players are good except few like Armani.

    • You have been mentioning this Saravia in a tsunami of posts recenlty, plz tell us what is so especial about Saravia or is it just like your obsession with Ansaldi in the past couple of years?

      • Ansaldi was much better than Tagliafico back then and Tagliafico was very average in world cup back then Tagliafico does not have defensive awareness and Renzo Sarvia is also better than Montiel.Renzo Sarvia handled Neymar really well if you know,Sarvia is all round for Right Back role. I just want good players at every position.

        • Sampaoli’s crazy tactics and formation made our team look average and vulnerable at the back.. and an aging team didn’t help him!!

        • Without any doubt Tagliafico was and is one of our best players since he started representing Argentina, but it seems you don’t like him for no reason. Saravia handled Neymar very well, that’s right but it was only that game he had an outstanding performance and the rest are pretty average or even below average. Enganche mentioned a few times that Saravia has been out of action for a long time, but you keep bringing up his name insanely. If you remember, Maxi Meza had ONE amazing game for us vs Spain prior 2018 World Cup and after that game he disappeared for good. Do you think it’s wise to keep calling Meza for selection?

          • I beg to differ on tagliaficos ! He hasn’t done anything with his back passes offensively and defensively his
            Lapses in defensive transition cost us !! Example the World Cup game against France !

          • Tagliafico was never one of the best,he was one of the reason for the loss against France and other world cup matches too.Tagliafico’s approach is always go after the ball like he is faster than the ball this approch cost Argentina defensive leaks in their system.Mbbape foul(he was not in his position)and Pavard goal was his mistakes.
            Sarvia played good against Neymar and Sarvia also played good against Uruguay in Saudi Arabia,Sarvia is consistenttly playing good in Internacional.

    • Saravia missed the entire season due to injury, what makes you think he would be good? With your favourite Foyth, plus Molina and Montiel, I think RB is ok for now.

      • Sarvia is playing in better league than Montiel.Sarvia did not miss entire season but half a season and now he is back in the playing eleven for Internacional

  16. Both Armani and Montiel are covid affected. As a former covid patient, I know how it destroys your stamina and mental focus for months even though symptoms are mild. Calling them is lunacy.

    • Even a half fit Montiel may be necessary because of our bad depth in right back, although it would be more ideal for Foyth or Molina to start for now. At least its just 3 players

  18. Alvarez is a slight surprise but overall this is alright. He has been good recently. I was expecting to see more unnecessary players like Andrada so overall Scaloni is improving with external and internal player call ups
