Alejandro Papu Gómez and Lautaro Martínez both start for Argentina.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni is not with the team for the match against Chile as he has tested positive for COVID. Walter Samuel and Roberto Ayala, both part of his coaching staff, will be the coaches and the eleven is out as Alejandro Papu Gómez starts and Gio Lo Celso is on the bench.

Papu Gómez starts in midfield with Rodrigo De Paul and Leandro Paredes. Emiliano Dibu Martínez starts with Nahuel Molina continuing to be selected over Gonzalo Montiel. Nicolas Otamendi maintains his place in the eleven as Lisandro Martínez starts with no Cristian Romero and Nicolas Tagliafico in place of Marcos Acuña.

Up front, Angel Di María, Lautaro Martínez and Nicolás González all start. Here is the starting XI:

Emiliano Dibu Martínez; Nahuel Molina, Otamendi, Lisandro Martínez, Tagliafico; De Paul, Paredes, Papu Gómez; Di María, Lautaro Martínez and Nicolás González.

Esteban Andrada along with Germán Pezzella (suspended), Maxi Meza and Lucas Ocampos all don’t make the bench for Argentina. Ángel Correa wears the number 10 shirt with no Lionel Messi.

  1. We played smart without really over exerting ourselves. Emi, Otamendi, Licha, Tagliafico, De Paul, Papu and Di Maria played well. Lautaro poacher finish.

So good to deprive Chile of 3 points at the altitude. Schadenfreude.

  2. Argentina still lacks a player who can distribute the ball from deep and make great bond with final third. Paredes, Le Celso both looking not good in this job. Yes their defensive work is spot on but their attacking input isn’t enough to me. Argentina maybe bail out against South American teams but In world cup we need to be more creative that that….

Since this last remaining games aren’t important and we shouldbe rotate the lineup and give other player to show their worth. Also we didn’t have to let Chille have the control in 2nd half. We should stayed offensive and try to score more to gain more dominant mentality which is required to be a world cup champions. Overall I am happy with first half but not with the 2nd.

  3. Man of the Match should be Emi Martinez. 2 solid saves against Diaz and Brereton. Well played overall & 3 points without Messi is showing how this team has transformed. Only concern for me was the last 20-30mins where our attack was so blunted & we ended up soaking a lot of pressure in our box.
Colombia game will be real interesting without DePaul & Parades. LoCelso will have to really step up .

  4. Good play 1st half and well defense 2nd half. Excellent win with 3 point. Don’t forget it’s against Chile who destroyed the dreams of 2 Copa finals

  5. They can not take Di Maria out. He is the one that Chile fear the most to counter attack them. Chile go full attack mode now. Without Di Maria, they would have no threat of getting counter attacked.

  6. man we are stacked! These team looks good and we still have: Angel Correa, Julian Alvarez, Dybala, Marcos Acuna, Gonzalo Montiel and Giovani Lo Celso on the bench.

    AND

Cuti Romero and Lionel Messi at home.

    We are stacked…

  7. Nico Gonzalez does not have timing of passing his passes are not accurate.Otamendi what a player I always believed in him.
Mollina should have jumped to stop that goal.

  8. First of all I want to know why the cameramen are so bad in this city? What the hell happened to Nico when papu was fouled ?
Great first half tho, threatening vision and passing. You have to appreciate this style of football!!!
fideos goal is for the ages. What a rocket!
Everyone has played well, papu had been brilliant thru and throughout.
Also the goal from Chile was awesome. Thats a Hard header for any keeper because the ball make a full vertical arc before dropping back down. I am happy that the half British Chile boy scored, Brerenton has been making more of a name for himself in south america then england. Yes I said it, I don’t dislike Chile, and I hope they also make it to the cup, but they have to find their points elsewhere 😂😂😂😂😂

  9. Just like I assumed, playing dybala is fruitless in the future….. it’s better to give time to Nico Gonzalez since he has lots of speed and the selfless runs he makes are incredible.
Feel bad for lo celso…..I still think in 4-3-3 lo celso could be important, he is our most creative midfielder plus the runs he makes from the midfield to attack is pretty underrated.

  10. Great to see locelso dropped. A player is not starting for his club should not be our starter and locelso surely not going to play much in spurs before wc also so he will not be match fit and his less minutes at spurs affected his performance in the national team in recent times.
