Manchester United do not want to release Alejandro Garnacho for the U20 World Cup.

Alejandro Garnacho has been included in Javier Mascherano’s preliminary list of players for the U20 World Cup next month and there is already some push back. According to TyC Sports, Manchester United do not want to release Garnacho for the tournament.

They have already communicated it to the AFA. Mascherano and the AFA will do everything possible to get him for Argentina but it is complicated.

Because the U20 World Cup is not part of the FIFA calendar, clubs outside of Argentina are not obliged to release their players.

  1. Garnacho is their super sub and an important member of their senior side. It was very unlikely for United to release him for a U20 world cup. He will feature in senior side now.

  2. I feel like Alvarez is a good luck charm. That kid just wins, wins, and wins. It came to my mind now that he’s in the semifinals that if he wins the Champions League (doesn’t have to be this year, he has a long time to do it) he will enter the current group of four Brazilians to have won the Libertadores, World Cup, and Champions League, all of which are dreams for players and it’s extremely difficult to win one of them. The stat also extends to those who’ve also won the Copa America on top of that (all of those Brazilians did too). Of course he won the Argentinian League (2021) and Copa Argentina (2019). He has realistic possibilities of winning the Premier League this year and even a few times again during his City contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of his career he is around one of the top winners in history. I’ll add the Finalissima, Trofeo de Campeones (2021) and Pre-olympic tournament to start off that list.
