The Argentina U20 national team will play either Nigeria or Japan at the U20 World Cup.

Argentina will be playing one of those two teams in the Round of 16 at the U20 World Cup on Wednesday. Javier Mascherano’s team finished first in Group A and will play either the third placed team from Group C or third from Group D in the Round of 16.

Japan finished third in Group C with three points and Nigeria finished third in Group D on six points but they await other results at the World Cup to confirm their qualification. Argentina won 5-0 vs. New Zealand on Friday to confirm top spot.

  1. I watched ARG play Friday for the first time and it was hard to believe that it wasn’t good enough to qualify for the WC. Playing Nigeria who beat Italy who toyed with Brazil is going to be a true test, lets hope the crowd provide enough motivation to go forward.

  2. Nigeria might be a specific challenge because typically African teenagers are more physically developed by the age of 20. Don’t see Perrone suited for that kind of midfield battle. We might need all 3 of Redondo, Tanlongo and Miramon in midfield at some point. Carboni might do well too.

  3. Messi now has 43 trophies and also surpassed CR total goal in European top 5 league. While seemingly having an mediocre season, he has 40+ goal contribution (without even counting his contribution for NT)
