Leandro Paredes revealed what Lionel Messi told him when they were hugging after Argentina won the World Cup.
Paredes was the first person to hug Lionel Messi after Gonzalo Montiel scored the penalty kick which won Argentina the World Cup. The Argentine had spoken about his injury going into the tournament as well as the save by Emiliano Martinez and Lionel Scaloni wanting to win, but he also commented on Lionel Messi.
In the interview with Sofi Martinez Mateos, here is what Paredes had to say:
“That hug with Messi, I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life. Turning around, seeing him on his knees and being the first to hug him as a World champion was incredible.
“I yelled at him ‘we are World champions’ and he just told us ‘thank you, thank you, I love you'”.
