The Argentina U17 team lost 3-0 vs. Mali U17 in the 3rd place match of the Indonesia World Cup.

It was not the best night for Argentina as Mali outplayed them from beginning to end. The African team had a total of 33 shots, 15 of those on target, while Argentina only had 8 shots, just 4 of those on target.

Argentina’s man of the match was without a doubt our goalkeeper Jeremías Florentín. Despite receiving three goals, he completed 12 saves and had a SofaScore rating of 8.5. Florentín did not have a good match in the semifinals against Germany and received a lot of criticism on his social media. Because of that, he decided to block all the comments on his Instagram, which is something a 17-year-old shouldn’t have to deal with.

The Albiceleste U-17 team coached by Diego Placente and led in the field by Claudio Echeverry, ends the World Cup in the 4th position.

  1. Hope these guys will be part of the transition of our beloved ARGENTINA. Some players are great to watch, ARGENTINA tend to lose matches against physical African teams at different level of age category. But the way this team succumbed to mali, is really terrific. I think they lost their focus in this meaningless match. Against Germany our goalkeeper committed some mistakes and as a result we lost to Germany. But against Mali he saved so many goal scoring opportunity. It means that he has mental grit. We have very good players in every position. I don’t know why SCALONI is not trying to find out some great young goalkeepers. We need young goalkeepers because EMI, BENITEZ, RULLI are of same age and they are not getting any younger. I think the post MESSI era is also bright. We have so many young players. GARNACHO, PAZ, FRANCO CARBONI, VALENTINE CARBONI, LUKA ROMERO, SOULE, VALENTINE BARCO. OUR present defence line is quite young. After the retirement of MESSI, we may not have another MESSI, DI MARIA, but these young players may turn out to be great as far as team combination is concerned. But I think SCALONI should continue because he has done an uphill task. VAMOS ARGENTINA

    • Argentina rarely has problems with African teams. It’s the disciplined top European teams that give trouble. The African teams do disproportionately well in the youth phases.
