Emiliano Martínez commented on his save vs. Randal Kolo Muani in the World Cup final saying that he did not think it was that good of a save.

Martínez made a World Cup winning save in the final for Argentina against France. Speaking on an interview with Ben Foster on Fozcast, Martínez explained his thought process behind the save. Here is what he had to say:

“I didn’t think it was that good the save. I made better saves than that.

“I expected Otamendi to miss the ball. I was having a comfortable game. I am calm because I am already expecting him (Otamendi) to miss it

I remember Di María scoring against Brazil at the Maracana when Ederson came out and Di María just lobbed it over him…

“If you’re running, he’s going to lob it… That came to my head. I said I am staying.”

  1. Otamendi was the one who brought back france into the game. Simple ball to clear out instead he tried wrestling with the French player.

This guy is easily the best Argentina goal keeper since 1990. Mentally strong and technically sound! His ability to read his defenders’ move and positioning is why he was the 2nd most important player in the world cup for us after Messi! Also, it was very stupid from Otamendi to try to dive to reach a long ball when he was completely out of position make that kind of judgement, but again we all know Ota is always due an error or two every match and he shockingly had a great run to the finals without any mistakes whatsoever! Scaloni should have subbed him right after Kolo Mulani forced a foul out of him and won a penalty for France. Had we held on to the 2-0 lead for 5 more mins, we would have easily forced French team to send all of their players to push forward leaving huge gaps for us to bury the game but Otamendi’s foolishness caused panic in our team and Mbappe got the best out of tired defense and levelled the game 2-2!

  3. GOD would not allow it to happen, at that particular moment when the game was practically finished, HE would not allow it to happen plain and simple………as anything in life, if one is meant to have something, he/she will get it even if the whole world is against them.
