Lionel Messi spoke about Gonzalo Montiel’s penalty in the World Cup final and how he was thinking about his family and his kids.

Messi gave an interview to Marcelo Tinelli of America TV where he spoke about the 2026 World Cup in the United States, winning the World Cup and playing with the Argentina national team at his age. In the same interview, Messi also spoke about what went through his mind during Gonzalo Montiel’s penalty in the World Cup final. Here is what he had to say:

“I thought about my family and my kids.

“At that moment, I was willing and pushing for him to put it in.

“Although Dibu gave us the peace of mind that we could have one more chance, it was to end here, do it.”

He also spoke about his kids:

“My three children are very different in character. Ciro is the most similar to me, we talked about it with Antonela. I’m different, I have my craziness and my moments.”
