Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about the team’s 2-0 win vs. Canada at the Copa America.

The Argentina national team won their Copa America opener in a match that saw two goals in the second half. Speaking to the media after the match, here is what Lionel Scaloni had to say:

“The important thing is that the team always responds, no matter what the game is like. This team generates goal situations and defends like lions”.

“As a negative aspect, I am left with the chances they created. We will analyze them in detail later. Winning always reinforces a lot of things. Yesterday I said that Canada was a tough opponent, it was a good test.”

Lionel Scaloni also spoke about the pitch:

“We knew we were going to play here seven months ago and they changed the turf two days ago. I’m very sorry for the show, it’s not suitable for this kind of players.”

Scaloni commented on the next match vs. Chile on Tuesday:

“We play based on how we can hurt the opponent. We always do that, and it will be the same in the next match.”

  1. According to Opta, Canada took seven shots in the first half, the most by a team against Argentina going into half time since November 2021.

-The Argentine played his 35th match in the world’s oldest national team tournament.
-He is playing in his seventh edition.
Lionel Messi became the player with the most appearances (35) in the history of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ this Thursday . At 36 years old and at his seventh edition of the world’s oldest national team tournament, the player from Rosario had a great match against Canada.

The number 10 had 6 shots (more than any other player in the match), four of them inside the box and three on target. He also completed 9 touches in the box and created two goal-scoring chances.
Messi had two ball recoveries in the final third of the field and won possession 3 times against Canada.
Regarding the world champion’s passing matrix, Rodrigo de Paul (7) and MacAllister (6) were at the top. Further back, he connected four times with Lo Celso, Paredes, and Acuña (4).
Messi also had an assist in Lautaro Martinez’ goal against Canada.
Another statistic that had Messi as the best in the match was passes in the final third: the number 10 completed 27 out of the 132 achieved by Argentina. Di María and De Paul followed with 18 each.

  2. I think Scaloni will change against Chile as he said in his interview :

“We play based on how we can hurt the opponent. We always do that, and it will be the same in the next match.”

well, i’m not so familiar with Chile’s team, but i assume they might have an tall striker or , that maybe they part of their game plan will be sending crosses to ARG’s box and if so, well then it might be better to start Ota instead of LICHA, but if they opt to play fast tempo game and have so e fast legs, well then i will personally continue with LICHA pairing CUTI and also ARG & SCALONI & CO must observe Molina’s performance and i don’t know if Montiel will suit better or would it be best to play at 3 at the back and have Acuna and Molin/Montiel as wingbacks as even RDP could play on the right and, well even Nico G. did not impress as left wingback, Stil, it is an option if ARG will opt for 3 at the back or Tagli could also as i belive play as left wingback….

    DIBU
    CUTI-OTA-LICHA
    MOLINA. TAGLI
    ENZO
    RDP. MAC
    LEO. TORO

Options for wingbacks as MONTIEL and ACUNA and maybe some bit odd one’s as RDP for the right and NICO.G for the left ? Options for DM as PALACIOS, PAREDES, GUIDO
