Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke on Monday as the team prepares for their match against Chile at the Copa America.

Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference on Monday prior to the team’s match against Chile on Tuesday. Here is what he had to say:

“There are differences between Chile and Canada. We always say that we play based on the damage we can do to the opponent.

“I did not see the field of play. I already said what I had to say. We have to adapt to what we have.

“We will put the team that best suits us against Chile.

“As a team we are doing well. We are trying to improve game by game.

“We will see if we make changes. We have an idea and we will decide in training. Between Nahuel (Molina) and Gonzalo (Montiel) and in several positions there is a good competition.

“I have the team, but just like the other day I’m going to give it to them (the players) first.

“We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the titles. It is important to win, but we did it in a way that has been contagious. People feel identified with this national team and we are proud, beyond what we have achieved.”

Scaloni also spoke about Cristian Romero:

“Cuti (Romero) is young and has to keep improving. It is evident that he is one of the best center backs in the world. In terms of play he is one of the leaders and in terms of experience, the matches will give him more experience.”

He also commented on Alejandro Garnacho:

“Garnacho is comfortable and enjoying being with us. We have a lot of options. He is training well.”

About the match against Chile:

“There is nothing left of that 2016 final. Just as it is with last year’s World Cup. It’s history. There’s no point in going back.

“We have played many matches with these types of characteristics. The players know that there are limits that cannot be crossed and leave the team with one less.

“We will face the match as it happens.”

  1. Go rewind the world cup final… for argentina 3rd goal it was montiel who didn’t rush his pass to the build up of that goal.. Enzo could have put the penalty kicks to bed early against Netherlands if he didn’t miss his pk.. don’t be ungrateful towards montiel!!!!
