Lionel Messi spoke about the Copa America final against Colombia on Sunday.
Messi scored for Argentina in their 2-0 win vs. Canada in the semi finals and was named Player of the Match. Speaking to Fox Sports Argentina, here is what Messi had to say himself going into the final:
“I am calm waiting for the day to come as always. I am much calmer than before after everything we lived through and what we went through.
“I want to enjoy things much more, live each moment to the fullest, not to speed up the times. Just live the moment and when it comes, focus on what the match is going to be like.
“The last finals I slept well, I had no problems. The truth is that we slept late because we stayed up talking, drinking mate and playing cards. We went to bed late but we slept well.”
He also spoke about Colombia:
“We watched the Uruguay and Colombia match. We knew that whoever it was going to be, it would be tough. Colombia hasn not lost in a long time. It’s a team with very good players, very intense as well. Up front, they have quick and dynamic players. And well, it’s a final.
“Finals are always different matches. But we’re doing well, we’re calm like we’ve been throughout the whole tournament, enjoying everything that’s happening to us. And well, we’re focused on what that final is going to be.”
I’m a long timer, even tho I don’t come here as often as i’d like to, TY Roy for the platform. Life is crazy, still remember the darkest of moments, after elimination in Russia, or even the moments leading up to that World Cup. Seeing myself seating dejected, demoralized, at seeing my beloved team so low. Fast forward to today, wow. Life is crazy and time changes so much. Argentina today is, is still, at its peak that i hope will go on for even longer. The team cannot possibly be beaten, in a sense, because in its current state IT HAS EXTRA GEARS THAT NO OTHER TEAM HAS. Colombia is very good, very tough, even better than the team Argentina struggled against in the semi in Brazil. They are a better team today Argentina multiple times as much. Argentina is two times winner in the past four years, these players KNOW how to win and that’s gold. As a fan, and just like Messi, like players, I feel that calm. Not nervous at all just serenity. Team knows the moment, the historical moment and i expect them to rise up. Doesn’t really matter what Colombia does, they are now under tremendous pressure, all Argentina needs is play to its capacity. Messi scoring will help, a lot.
People here commenting like colombia is the football team from other planet.. Shit man. We are still the WC and Copa champions. They should worry for us. Still we have Leo. What poor mentality from our supporters. We don’t aspect that. We definitely respect the colombians as they are in the final that’s all.
In final
we need tails players in defence..
our tactics..like
,,,,,,,, EMi Martinez,,,,,,,,
Romero..Otamendi..Lisandro
…………Rodreguez……
Palacios …Paul…..Mac
Messi……..Alvarez….Maria
Tall players with zero ball mobility? Isn’t the idea to have players who are press resistant? Ota was a beast during our quest for the international treble but he is extremely error prone. A CB Pair alongside Tagli and Montiel would be just fine. And Guido is needed only when we need to hold the ball and completely slow the game down, he is more of a destroyer than a ball progressor. Against the physicality of Colombia we still need someone like a Paro who plays precise passes and does not dispossess the ball into dangerous areas. What we need is the belief that this team can defeat Colombia in spite of the fact that this Colombia is on a mission. If we play to our potential, which we haven’t in this tournament(we have just played percentage football and still got to the final), we will win. VAMOSS
Lmao. Blud say otamendi, are you insane smh
Remember Fedrico Fernandez? He was Sabella’s tall CB for the whole of WCQs but $hit his pants when the world cup started and got replaced by M.Demichelis. We are blessed to have Lisandro Martinez whose positioning, passing, decision making, tackling & ball anticipation skills are on par with most of the top defenders in the world.
I always wondered what a faggot like Federico Fernandez was doing playing as a starting CB in ARG
The comments section here is gonna increase my blood pressure. Why is everyone so afraid? ITS COLOMBIA- not 1970 Brazil or 2010 Spain. Well they are not even 2018 France. We should be winning this. Yes they did not lose in the last 28 games so? We won back to back 36 games before the world cup.
We should not take them lightly but they should be afraid of us. For them to win the final, they need to play their best match and we need to play our worst match. Anything else and we win. Its that simple.
We have won 3 trophies in the last 3 years and lost just 2 matches. We won more trophies than we have lost matches. This is incredible!!
In a football match anything can happen but if the MINNOWS IN WORLD FOOTBALL Colombia wins this, it will still be an upset.
Yeah we have had a lot of trolls in this website over the years but they have all been shut down by our success. Hell even Anuparno has become positive, thanks to our success!! Hahaa…
I believe in this team and the coaching staff. Will watch the final with a lot less stress than the copa 2021. VAMOS!!
@Sabya U r right bro. That is the Argentine fan mentality.
One advantage Colombia has is that they are playing their hearts out and it doesn’t look like Argentina is. Colombia looks to have the hunger of Argentina of copa 21 and WC 22z Argentina better prepare for a real test in the final…Still like their chances though
Probably our toughest opponent since the world cup. More so, because they are unbeaten in 28 matches and closing in on Argentina’s record.
I believe Argentina is capable of raising their game just a little above their opponents be it Honduras or France.
Thiago Romano, 17 year old winger from Panathinaikos B team is a target for Feyenoord, Lazio and Torino. Romano is now part of Argentina u 20.
I hope Messi can win because this is his last Copa America. But, we must figure out a way to stop Luis Diaz. This is guy is more dangerous than 21’ Neymar and 22’ Mbappe combined. His moves are more unpredictable and he can creat chances from chaos, which will further expose our huge weakness in RB position.
We need to let Pezzella give the pregame speech, as he can share his nightmare from last Copa and emphasize the importance of locking down Luis Diaz.
Roy can you ban this guy from the forum ?
why? i dont see a problem with this comment at least
Mbappe scored a hattrick i don’t see diaz scoring a hattrick. Diaz is a threat no doubt but peak mbappe is a different beast
When a team consistently wins tournaments, there are both positives and negatives. On the positive side, psychologically, the players might be more relaxed before the final because they feel that losing would still be acceptable to their fans. However, the downside is that their hunger and desperation to win might diminish. This is a natural aspect of human psychology.
For Colombia, the situation is different. They aren’t considered a giant like Argentina or Brazil, so missing out on this cup could mean waiting many years or even decades for another opportunity.
Its not as easy as you are talking. Columbia will be in pressure to win and we have seen many sides crumbled under pressure and Columbia is the favorite here for the first time that may affect their game
Psychology plays a very important role. If you haven’t played yet and are already afraid, you will lose because your body is numb because your mind is inhibited. Before the match, you must get enough sleep and eat scientifically to avoid diarrhea. The whole team must play comfortably and give everything they have. Forget about titles and play without pressure like a child, victory is certain.
> “The last finals I slept well, I had no problems. The truth is that we slept late because we stayed up talking, drinking mate and playing cards. We went to bed late but we slept well.”
Amazing. The mental benefit of chilling with friends massively improved their confidence and chem. i can watch this over and over. Kun, Messi, De Paul, Beckham, Paredes clowning around in Qatar.

🙂 🙂 Thanks for sharing this full video. I have seen excerpts from it.
I love this team so much! The idea that they stayed up late playing cards the night before a World Cup final is crazy to me. I love how much like a club of friends that care about each other they have become. So many national teams would kill for that kind of camaraderie.
Frankly that’s our only strength demonstrated so far in this tournament. I have no doubt that’s a key strength for any team. However, IMHO on the field we need to combine finesse with that camaraderie to be the champion. We have been missing the finesse from many in this tournament. Messi not at his best. His best was in the semifinal where he missed self-created opportunities which he would scored 110 out of 100 times in the recent past. Di Maria is far from his level against France, Bolivia (qualifier). Enzo far from his best at the World Cup 2022. Only Emi, Cuti, Licha have been the saving grace. And Colombia is the first proverbial tough team we are meeting in this tournament. Ecuador was close to being the toughest. So Scaloni needs to do a lot of home work to make it difficult for Colombia or, if we want to put it the other way, easy for us. Leveraging setpieces would make a difference. The goal against Ecuador was a classic example. We need to do similar interesting stuff this time with corners and freekicks.
Yes setpiece’s will play huge role in this game as obviously the opponent are very good with their set pieces too so ARG can’t really afford to give them that many and their play need to be broken in their own half or before entering ARG half of the pitch as this will need huge amount of running constantly or being so tight, that they can’t find any passes between ARG’s lines nor play the ball behind in to a open space etc…
It will demand huge collective effort as team playing together and hopefully ARG will be able to do it !
Team looks relaxed. Im sure they don’t enjoy Uruguay. Uruguay is very physical plus we lost against them in qualifiers that’s always remain in your subconscious mind. If we can manage diaz and james and defend set peices properly i don’t think Columbia can hurt us
If montiel is fit, then scaloni will start same team. Else Molina will play. Just 1 more match after that, I am hoping we will play far more better than we played in group and ko rounds. Also hope scaloni will look for better players after Copa, who can contribute to this team…
Hope for the best .
They are chilling lol. We are killing each other.
