Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni speaks on the players that will be called up.

Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference on Monday about the players that are being called up to the Argentina national team. Speaking at the press conference, here is what he had to say:

“In these 6 games we brought the base of players that gave us the Copa America and there was no time to call other players but from now on (March 2025) we need them to play in their clubs and we will decide by their football level. We always did it this way except this time when we decided in some cases to continue bringing them because they are important.”

  1. Once we qualify, I think the new blood will be called in. After you are qualified, who cares if you win or lose, right? At that point it about gaining experience. If you end up 6th or 1st , who cares? You’re still going to the Cup, hopefully with new players. I think players like Ota, Pezzella, should have followed DiMaria’s lead. DiMaria still has a lot to offer the NT, but knew it was time to step aside.

    • Yes, ADM could easily still play for ALBICELESTE, but I think he understood what it takes and also how long it might take to start rebuilding and replacing some like’s Pezzella, Acuna, Otamendi….

Angel will remain as one of biggest legends in football forever and for ARG for me personally straight after MESSI Y EL DIEGO.

Also he is so much more in every sense and even beyond!

What an amazing and incredible person and a great role model for younger players and kids.

Can’t explain it in words it is impossible to express him how good he was and still is and even he had such a hard year’s with ARG like MESSI and others too,,,

Well, I’m so happy that he won the 4 most important trophies for ARG and also for himself as if one look’s at him now still playing with Benfica and scoring goal’s,

Well for me honestly i don’t even know anymore, mwhivh i kind of prefer maybe more as his goals or celebrations with audience and offcourse i get more, than great joy from both, but i’m so happy, because he looks so happy and i truly wish him longlivety and all the best for his family too as he truly deserves all of that and so much more!

  2. C’mon, Scaloni, prove once again that you’re not favoring any players.

Many people on this forum are like novices when it comes to football, playing on their PlayStation and thinking they’re like Menotti or Cruyff.

Guys, stop setting your dream starting XI and posting long paragraphs about it.

Trust in Scaloni and his process. He’s a World Cup-winning coach, and that’s not just by luck. If you think it’s luck, then you may have some mental issues

  3. Scaloni is absolutely correct in his statement. There is no time to try new players in 2024. The Copa 2024 is also a significant factor, and he can only experiment with the core players he has worked with closely. The coaching staff can monitor players’ performances at the club level for the next six months and select players based on that form. In my opinion, aside from Dibu and Romero (assuming full fitness), nobody can be guaranteed a spot in the team for March 2025. Messi should reconsider and accept a role as a super sub — no more 90 minutes for him. I hope he proves me wrong

Well, maybe so or let’s hope so, but in my opinion The Coaching should alllways monitor players performance’s at the club level whether is before or after WC, COPA or WCQ’s etc…

And at least in Senesi’s case he has been clearly in better form for quite long enough, than for example Otamendi and specially Pezzella even Senesi’s last EPL season with Bournemouth was outstanding in terms of EPL and it does not necessarily have to be EPL at all, but surely a top level kind of league or playing against very good teams and performing well etc…

And I think there been others too who should had been not only called up, but also given a chance to play and surely many name’s been called up, but not many of them have played, that much, though some progress with like’s Almada and Paz for example….

And I’m not asking to change the whole starting 11 or replacing most of the team, no not all just more kind of thinking a head and specially for WC and now as unfortunately many are out injured and with every respect facing Peru at home, well I think it will be about time to give time for those who might be important for ARG in the next WC….

But, I can’t see that really happening and also not really understand this, that there were no time after COPA or even before, that or even after WC, which was soon allready nearly 2 years from now, because I see kind of opposite way with this “ that, were not time “ and in my opinion every day there will be even more less TIME and in the end, that might cost ARG, but hopefully not!

After the WCQ’s, well there won’t be many friendly’s and if there will, well I doubt, that the quality of opponents will not be as what it is in SA WCQ’s, but again I hope more, than to be wrong about this….?

    • I agree with you. Qatar world cup should have been the last match for OTA, Acuna, PEZZELLA. Still they are in the team and blocking the path of youngsters like ANSELMINO, SOLER, AUGUSTINE GIAY. We are not running short of talents. But a talented player needs to be given some time to prove his worth. If ECHEVERI, MASTANTUANO have been spanish they would have cemented their place by now. SCALONI should have brought drastic changes after the Qatar world cup. CHRISTIAN MEDINA, EQUI FERNANDEZ, ALAN VARELLA are more than capable of replacing PAREDES, DE PAUL. But they are getting over looked, we love SCALONI AND his Coaching staffs. They have given us immense happiness by winning THE WORLD CUP. But as a diehard support I can’t bear to see our beloved albicilieste to become a friend’ club. SCALONI should have started building up a young and energetic team just right after the WORLD CUP.
