Julián Álvarez and Ángel Correa both scored twice, while Giuliano Simeone provided an assist in Atlético Madrid’s dominant 6-0 away victory over Sparta Praha on Matchday 5 of the Champions League.
“The Spider” opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a stunning free-kick, curling the ball perfectly over the Sparta Praha wall and into the back of the net.
With Diego Simeone’s team leading 2-0 by the 59th minute, Julián Álvarez initiated a counter-attack deep in Atlético’s half. He carried the ball all the way to the edge of the opposition’s penalty area, played a one-two with Giuliano Simeone, and finished clinically with his right foot past the oncoming goalkeeper, making it 3-0.
In the 78th minute, all the Argentines on the field—Rodrigo De Paul, Giuliano Simeone, and Julián Álvarez—were substituted off. Ángel Correa was among the players brought on as reinforcements.
With Atlético already leading 4-0 in the 85th minute, Correa received the ball at the edge of the six-yard box and struck it first-time with his right foot, netting the team’s fifth goal.
Just four minutes later, Correa rounded off the scoring. After a scrappy play inside the penalty area, he calmly slotted the ball into the net from near the penalty spot, sealing a 6-0 victory for Atlético Madrid.
Not a fan of Alvarez, but that was a great performance beyond the goals themselves. Hope he continues to improve.
Between Alvarez and Lautaro, I rate Alvarez as a better all-round player. He is equally good playing as a pure striker or an attacking midfielder which why he constantly gets rotated in multiple positions. City is missing Alvarez more than they realise. He filled in for no10 role quite well when KDB was out but was benched when all the regular players were back! Great decision to move to Atletico, 9 goals and 1 assist doesn’t really does justice to his performance for Atletico so far! Today, his first goal was a very good freekick but the second one was pure class from Alvarez!
He will score 20 goals this season. Mark my word!
The other day some guy said julian alvarez can’t dribble can’t score Long distance goal yet again alvarez have scored yesterday a very good free-kick with another good goal, giuliano Simeone is big deal very hard working player I think he will be a permanent player for Scaloni’s squad for the nt as long he plays for his club regularly.
Simeone has instantly become my favorite due his hard work. However there is one player Scaloni is unwilling to call, angel correa. He is probably the best supersub player in Europe. Even though he is approaching 30 he can offer something different.
