Giovani Lo Celso had a bittersweet evening, scoring a stunning goal before being sent off in Real Betis’ 2-1 away defeat to Mladá Boleslav on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Conference League.
The Argentine midfielder, recently back in action after recovering from an injury, gave Betis an early lead in the 17th minute with a brilliantly taken free-kick that curled over the wall and into the net.
However, frustration boiled over late in the match. In the 88th minute, with Betis trailing 2-1 after conceding twice in the second half, Lo Celso made a reckless challenge from behind on an opponent near midfield. The referee wasted no time in showing him a straight red card.
Fellow Argentine Ezequiel “Chimy” Ávila also featured for Betis, starting the match but being substituted off in the 55th minute.
