Pablo Maffeo has stated that he will wait for a call up from the Argentina national team.
Maffeo is born in Spain to an Argentine mother and an Italian father but has stated that he would not play for Spain. The 27 year old right back is eligible to represent the Argentina national team and was called up in November 2023 for World Cup qualifying matches but did not play a match. Speaking in an interview with La Zona 10, here is what he had to say:
“I wouldn’t go with Spain because I would wait until I could get a call from Argentina. They were the first to knock on my door.”
“I would go before Italy than Spain. I have Argentina in my head…”
The Argentina national team will play Uruguay and Brazil in World Cup qualifying matches in March.
Montiel is too inconsistent and makes costly errors. It is time to move on from him even though his national team performance has always been better than when playing for a club. Maffeo has been knocking the national team door for quite a while now and it is the best time to try him.
Same thing with Acuna, his time has passed and we need to try new LBs. Tagliafico will be 34 in 2026 and Scaloni demands all his players press when not in possession. We need a young full back on the left.
