Claudio Echeverri: “My idol has always been Messi”

Claudio Echeverri commented on Lionel Messi and the Argentine players that have played with Manchester City.

Echeverri has joined Manchester City after spending a year on loan at River Plate. He spoke about his transfer and on Manchester City’s website, commented on Lionel Messi. Here is what he had to say:

“My idol has always been Messi, I’ve been watching him since I was very young. Seeing him play is always a motivation because of everything he’s accomplished. Watching him play gives me an extra push, he makes me happy with the way he plays, he’s my idol, I admire him a lot…”

The 19 year old also commented on the relationship between City and Argentina players:

“I’ve spoken to Sergio Agüero, also Martin Demichelis. They told me Manchester City was a great club with amazing players and a beautiful history.

“I knew it (the relationship between Argentina and City). Agüero, in particular, stands out. He’s a legend at Manchester City; everything he achieved, the incredible player he was. I used to watch him and it’s an amazing feeling to be here.”

He also spoke about if he thinks City have a special reputation in Argentina:

“Yes I think so. Especially because of the players who have come here and done really well; Kun Agüero, Julián Álvarez, (Pablo) Zabaleta. All very important players. I’m at a great club with a lot of history.”

  1. I just hope he gets normal playing time for a young person with talent. After Argentina winning 3 trophies in a row, I’ve realized that a player excelling at a huge club doesn’t matter very much. As long as they play a normal amount and it prepares them for their international games, then it’s all good.

  2. May be that’s the reality. But its painful that a player like savinho starts for city straight away. And the same echeverri goes on for loan and plays for small teams. But echeverri has that natural aura to play everywhere and to become that world beater. Messi has that aura. And its upto echeverri

  3. Maybe city will send him on loan… After 6 months being on the bench, I think it’s better to go for newly promoted PL Teams than going to Spain and Italy and play for unknown team.
