Thiago Almada speaks on his connection with Lionel Messi

Thiago Almada, the goalscorer in Argentina’s 1-1 draw against Colombia, spoke to the media after the match and reflected on his link-up play with Lionel Messi:

“With Leo (Messi), I try to find him and give the ball back to him. We all know what he’s capable of on the field.”

In addition to his goal, the former Vélez Sarsfield player was involved in several promising exchanges with Argentina’s number 10, displaying the potential of their partnership.

Regarding the result, Almada said:

“We always want to win at home, but fortunately we were able to grab a point at the end.”

“We knew what was at stake for them. We just had to stay calm and do what we always do.”

  1. Mastantuano..Xabi wants him as starter in Real Madrid..Fabrizio reports..!

At 17, Mastantuano is already looks like 20-22 age, good height, technically very good. Excellent in dead ball, passing and scoring..this guy can improve and grow into one of the world’s best player..!

    Yamal vs Mastantuano..soon..?

I thought next big player from Argentina will be Echeverri..now it seems Mastantuano can grow even bigger player than Echeverri..!

Look at his stat this year as RW. .17 games, 6 goals and 4 assists. He’s done it for one of the best club in Argentina, at 16-17 age. This is a great stat for any player playing in RW.

He can continue to produce same performance in Real? He can adapt and improve in Real and La Liga?..With Xabi’s support, Mastantuano can surprise all of us in the coming seasons.

Scaloni will have a new headache to field his best X1..!

  2. The team as it is currently set up will not contend for another WC championship. This current line up is a final 8 team in my opinion, maybe a final 4 team. The obvious are players like Messi, Otamendi, Tagliafico, DePaul, Paredes, are way past their prime. This is not hate, it’s life. Some can still contribute greatly at the next WC, but as situational substitutes. Between now and the WC, they will only get older, and more miles, and likely not as good as they are today.
Others like Molina, Lisandro Lopez, are out of form or injury prone. Also, with Messi, this team is slow, and their attacking suffers minus the occasional Messi magic he produces. Players defer in the opponents box to Messi instead of the open player and we lose scoring opportunities because of this. It’s no surprise we scored 2 minutes after Messi left the game. We basically play 10 against 11 when Messi starts due to his inability to cover the pitch. Again, not hate, but age. I am grateful I saw such a marvelous player play but we all lose the battle to time. As for new players, there are plenty, but they need to be integrated sooner than later. You need a replacement for Tagliafico, Otamendi, Messi, and DePaul. They simply can’t play 90 minutes against the worlds best and produce the repeat we all want.

    • Spot on. Scaloni has been very complacent and sitting on his comfort zone all this time and with just one year away from the WC we can say he has wasted 3 golden years. People here still think Otamendi, Molina and Paredes are still valid. They are a liability. Nico Gonzalez did nothing all season and can still play for the World champs?? Almada is a massive find. There should easily have been 4 or 5 other guys who should have got regular playing time. This team crying for goals and need a major out of the box thinking to sort this huge issue.

  3. I was one of many to question his inclusion in the 2022 WC squad, in fact I had no idea who he was except that he played for Atlanta United but Scaloni proved us all wrong.
I also feel that some young surprise players will come to light between now and next summer.
