According to Uruguayan journalist Gonzalo Ronchi on La Mañana del Fútbol, Uruguay has officially put forward the historic Estadio Centenario as a candidate to host the 2026 Finalissima between Argentina and Spain. The match could mark a symbolic farewell to the stadium before it undergoes major renovations ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
Argentina and Spain are expected to face off in the second edition of the Finalissima this March, during the international break from March 26 to 31. The match, which brings together the reigning champions of South America and Europe, was agreed upon by AFA president Claudio Tapia and RFEF president Rafael Louzán, pending Spain’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
