Nicolás Otamendi arrives in Argentina: “Coming to the national team is a privilege”

Nicolás Otamendi has arrived in Argentina for the World Cup qualifiers and spoke about being with the team.

Otamendi is in Argentina as the team will play Venezuela on Thursday in a World Cup qualifier. The Argentina national team trained on Monday behind closed doors. Speaking to ESPN Argentina, here is what Otamendi had to say:

“I’m really excited. Coming to the national team is a privilege. It was a long trip, but tomorrow we’ll all be together. It’s important to keep the same mindset and try to do things right. These are the last games of the qualifiers.”

“We should not take our foot off the gas; there is still time before the World Cup. Every time we play and wear this jersey, we have to do it well and prepare ourselves in the best possible way.”

When asked about the match against Venezuela potentially being Lionel Messi’s last in Argentina:

“The decision is Leo’s, but we enjoy every game he plays with us, wherever it may be. The most important thing is that he feels comfortable.”

Argentina will play Venezuela on Thursday and on September 9 will play against Ecuador.

I love that he still has a fighting and competitive mentality, but unfortunately, age is catching up. He should understand this with his sixth sense.
