Nicolás Otamendi to captain Argentina vs. Ecuador

Nicolás Otamendi will captain the Argentina national team against Ecuador.

Argentina national team captain Lionel Messi started for Argentina in the team’s 3-0 win against Venezuela last week. Messi confirmed after the match that he will not travel with the team to play Ecuador on Tuesday.

The Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference on Monday where he commented on young players playing against Ecuador in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier. In the same press conference, Scaloni confirmed that Otamendi will captain the team for the match. Here is what he had to say:

“Nicolás Otamendi means a lot to us. He has been a huge help throughout this whole time. He is a very important player and will be remembered for everything he has given to the Argentine national team. Tomorrow he will be the captain.”
