River Plate to block Ian Subiabre from joining Argentina U20 team if new contract not signed

River Plate could block Ian Subiabre from joining the Argentina U20 national team if he does not renew his contract.

Argentina U20 national team coach Diego Placente has called up Ian Subiabre from River Plate for the U20 World Cup which begins later this month. According to Hernán Castillo, the Argentine club will not release the 18 year old if he does not sign a new contract.

The new contract would keep him at the club until December 2028 with a release clause of €100 million. The AFA support River Plate’s decision and AFA president Claudio Tapia is set to meet with Subiabre’s agents.

His current contract expires in December 2026 and the new offer includes a better salary.
