Álvaro Montoro assists for Botafogo in 1-0 win vs. Atlético Mineiro

Álvaro Montoro had the assist for the only goal of the match in Botafogo’s 1-0 win vs. Atlético Mineiro.

Montoro continues his good form for Botafogo. After being named as part of the U20 Argentina national team for the U20 World Cup which begins later this month, the 18 year old provided a great assist.

The Argentine received the ball outwide and dribbled inside the penalty area, crossing it to Santiago Rodríguez who scored. Alexander Barboza also started for Botafogo while Joaquin Correa was substituted into the match and Fausto Vera started the entire match for Mineiro.

With Botafogo, Montoro has two goals and one assist in his last three league matches.

  1. Marcos Senesi’s consistent and strong performances, particularly since his move to the Premier League with Bournemouth, make a compelling case for him to be a regular in the Argentina national team. His attributes and contributions on the field could certainly earn him a more prominent role, potentially partnering with Cristian “Cuti” Romero.
Here’s a breakdown of what makes Senesi a strong candidate for a consistent Argentina call-up:
    1. Consistent Performance in a Top League:
Since joining Bournemouth, Senesi has established himself as a reliable and effective center-back in the Premier League. He is a key player for his club, playing a significant number of minutes and contributing to both defense and attack. His consistent form in one of the world’s most demanding leagues demonstrates his quality and readiness for international football.
    2. Versatility and Modern Center-Back Attributes:
Senesi is not just a solid defender; he is a well-rounded, modern center-back. His stats show he is strong in:
Defensive Prowess: He excels in tackles, interceptions, and clearances.
Passing and Ball Progression: He is comfortable on the ball and has a high pass completion rate, including long passes that can start attacks from the back.
Goal Contributions: He has a notable record of scoring and assisting, which is a valuable asset for a central defender. He had the most goal involvements for any center-back in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season.
    3. Complementary Partnership with Cuti Romero:
The idea of a partnership with Cuti Romero is intriguing. While Romero is known for his aggressive, front-foot defending, Senesi’s style could complement him well. Senesi’s ability to read the game, his composure on the ball, and his positional awareness could provide a stable anchor, allowing Romero to play his more assertive, pressing style. A partnership between the two could create a formidable and balanced defensive pairing for Argentina.
    4. International Experience:
Senesi has already been called up to the Argentina national team and made his debut. He was part of the squad that won the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions in 2022. This existing experience within the national team setup means he is already familiar with the team culture and the demands of international football.
While there is strong competition for places in the Argentina squad, especially in defense, Senesi’s impressive club form, his versatile skill set, and his proven ability to perform at a high level make a compelling argument for him to be a regular starter. His consistent output for Bournemouth certainly puts him in the conversation to be considered one of Argentina’s top center-back options.

    • I stopped reading your comments the moment you posted:
“I believe it would be a good idea to give …..Kevin Mac Allister a chance, as the latter has been playing in the Belgian league and has experience in European competitions like the Europa League and Champions League.”

Aaron Anselmino is the future captain of Argentina, “Guaranteed” (if and only if the kid can stay fit for more than 1 game).

    • Senesi has been excellent last season and seems to have carried that form to this season as well. A well rounded defender who anticipates danger, strong in the air and capable of playing out of the back in addition to the fact that he has good attacking stats for a CB (last season he was the most productive CB with 4 goals and 5 assists).
In conclusion I would like to see either him or Medina be given a shot as LCB to partner Cuti (assuming that Licha wouldn’t come back fully fit) because Balerdi cast a lot of doubts during that Ecuador game.

  2. How has this guy Simeone managed to stay the coach of the third biggest club in Spain. He has failed do anything whatsoever in the last 4 seasons! All the players of Atletico are having their worst stretch of their career under his outdated tactics! It will be only a matter of time until this disaster infects Julian.

    • Imagine starting his son who is still hardly good enough to be on the bench over players like Grizeman. Scaloni has to think big and drop junior Simeone who has zero finishing or passing skills. Yes, he is a hard working player who runs non stop but these type of players usually are brought in when defending a lead in the last 10 to 15 mins . He is playing his son fully knowing his team is struggling to create chances.

    • To be fair it was Simeone who made Atletico Spain’s 3rd biggest club, before him they were mid-table at best. With that being said I do agree that it’s time for Diego to go somewhere else because this Atletico is way too talented to be languishing like this.
