Argentina’s U-20 national team closed out the group stage of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 with a 1-0 win over Italy at the Bicentenario Elías Figueroa Stadium in Valparaíso.
The decisive goal came from right-back Dylan Gorosito, who displayed both skill and composure on the play. After a great dribble down the right side, the Boca Juniors man beat his marker and struck powerfully to score the winning goal for Diego Placente’s team.
Argentina had already secured qualification for the Round of 16 before the match, but the win confirmed La Albiceleste as Group D winners with a perfect record.
Placente’s side will now wait for the conclusion of the group stage to learn their Round of 16 opponent, which will be one of the best third-placed teams in the tournament.

Another masterclass show by Placente who increasingly gives hope on life after Scaloni era. Noteworthy win as Italy is a tough opponent ( top 4 in last 3 U20 WCs ). Gorosito (spinning across 4 defenders including a nutmeg for a golazo), Delgado, Soler looked best players for me today. Prestianni & Subiabre as subs is adding tempo in the end. The best l like of this team is that they dont get into a defensive hole after taking lead & continue momentum.
our possible R16 opponent is Nigeria/Colombia or South Africa. Mexican prodigy Mora mostly will wait for us in QF. While this team is genuinely impressive, 2 concerns i have is 1) Montoro still not settling in 2) We dont have a potent CF back up for Sarco. Really unfortunate Ruberto got injured & Hidalgo not released by Toulouse. Silvetti does not look a same level replacement.
