Matías Soulé has stated that he wants to play for the Argentina national team.
Soulé confirmed that he does not want to play with Italian national team but with the world champions. Matías Soulé’s agent stated at the start of the month that 22 year old is eligible to playing with Italy and hinted that it could be a possibility.
Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference on Monday about Matías Soulé, stating that he is on the Argentina national team’s radar. Matías Soulé spoke to Il Messaggero, here is what he had to say:
“I want to play for Argentina. I’m very grateful to Italy, but I want to keep working to earn a call-up from Lionel Scaloni.
“I understand it’s not easy because there are so many great players available, but that’s my goal.”
Sensible damage control by Soule. His agent unnecessarily made public statements. Hopefully Scaloni just gets Soule into Nov friendly squad & start playing him. I dont expect Soule to make it to WC 26 squad as long as Messi is playing. But in a post Messi era, he will have a role to play & should start engaging him.
What is worrisome is post WC22 , we dont have a single new player at a guaranteed starter position. Definitely indicates stagnation. It is not possible for same player to maintain such world class champion level for 4 years. Infact the only 2 players who have come in strongly are Almada (was in WC22 squad) & Simeone jr
I hope that Placente will take over the national team in the future..but Scaloni is the best coach that we ever will have.
Scaloni knows what he is doing. Atleast better than us.
Yes but can he meet the very high standards AFA? Like can he turn into a coyote during full moon like Otamendi? Or be Scaloni’s doppelganger like the great Franco Armani?
Those are kind of abilities that we need, not mundane things like footballing skill or form.
