The Argentina U20 national team lost 2-0 against Morocco in the U20 World Cup final.
Diego Placente’s team did not trail the entire U20 World Cup but let in two early goals. Santino Barbi fouled just outside of the penalty area and it was a free kick for Morocco.
Going to Barbi’s side, Yassir Zabiri would score the free kick for the 1-0 lead. Argentina were awarded a free kick minutes later but Carrizo’s effort went wide.
With Morocco leading 1-0, they had a run down their right side and a cross which found Yassir Zabiri and he scored Morocco’s second goal of the match. Mateo Silvetti was substituted in for Valentino Acuña.
Milton Delgado played a pass in to Silvetti who made a run into the penalty area but his effort went wide. Moments after that, Morocco had an effort on goal which was cleared by Villalba.
Argentina would see a lot of the ball but the final ball in attack was not there as they were unable to score.
Morocco deserving winners. Their defense has been spotless after initial counters. Our performance in final was not the best. But full marks to Placente for getting the youth team back on spotlight after such a long wait. Barbi wins Golden Glove & Delgado gets Bronze for best player. Hopefully some of these players will make upgrades in future & contest for NT spots. Delgado, Soler, Gorosito, Carrizo, Prestianni all need to be watched for progress.
Also Placente was without Echiverri, Mastantuno , Ruberto ( injury) & Gimenez. To add to that Pieranni’s injury mid tournament. So overall Placente has done his job & deserves to be considered when Scaloni decides to quit.
Delgado was only impressive player. Prestianni was good but unfortunately In the NT there are better players than him on the senior team. Diego placente shot himself on the foot. Matteo silvetti cost Argentina
As always same mistakes Arg managers doing in crucial games. Zabiri is one of the great technical player. Placente completely avoided his ability. An all out attack leaving zabiri freely is a suicidal. This is what happnd today. After early goal boys mental strength lost and stadium atmosphere is also against Arg. Sad day. And tactically prestianni playing too wide also not good if he plays more central it willbe better I think.
Well, this sucked!
Soler is nowhere near LB spot in the A team. Needs at least 2 years of improvement to get there. Prestianni is a poor man’s Echeverri, at least today.
Only Delgado is a player that actually impressed throughout the tournament.
