Lautaro Martínez scored the winning goal as Inter defeated Atalanta 1–0 away from home to reclaim the top spot in the Serie A standings. The match was played at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo and was part of Matchday 16 of the 2025–26 Italian league season.
The Argentine forward started the match and found the net late in the game, extending his strong run of form in domestic competition. Martínez has now scored five goals in his last four Serie A appearances and leads the league’s scoring chart.
The decisive moment came 25 minutes from the end following a costly mistake by defender Berat Djimsiti. Substitute Pio Esposito intercepted the play and provided the assist for Martínez, who finished calmly to secure the victory. With that goal, the Inter captain reached nine goals in the league this season, moving one clear of Christian Pulisic of AC Milan.
The win lifted Inter to 36 points, allowing them to return to first place in the Serie A table, one point ahead of Milan. Atalanta, meanwhile, remain on 22 points in 11th position and missed an opportunity to close the gap to the European qualification places.

While Julián Álvarez is going through annual goal drought phase, Lautaro Martínez is back to scoring regularly. After a poor Serie A season last year, where he scored only 12 league goals, Lautaro seems to be back to his 23/24 form. This season, in 21 games across Serie A and the Champions League, he has already scored 13 goals and provided 4 assists.
Alvarez, on the other hand, is struggling at Atlético Madrid. Simeone keeps changing his role from game to game, and sometimes even during the same match, which makes it hard for him to find consistency. Nico González and Thiago Almada are also not performing at the same level they usually do under Scaloni. Simeone’s system isn’t bringing best out of our Argentine players at Atletico.
Good point. All Alvarez, Nico, Almada are excellent players, and hopefully they find their best form before the world cup. Its great to see Lautaro performing. With these four, and add in Messi, Nico Paz, Mastantuono, Garnacho etc, the attack is scary good.
