According to reports from Spain, Lionel Scaloni has emerged as a potential candidate to become the next manager of Real Madrid.
Spanish journalist Manolo Lama revealed on Cadena COPE that the club has already made contact with the Argentina national team coach.
“I can assure you that Real Madrid have contacted Scaloni,” Lama said on the program El Tertulión.
The report comes at a time of uncertainty for Real Madrid. The team is currently behind Barcelona in La Liga, has been eliminated from the Champions League, and also exited the Copa del Rey earlier than expected. These results have increased pressure on the club to find a new direction ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Scaloni, who led Argentina to major success in recent years, is under contract with the Argentine Football Association until the end of the 2026 World Cup. The idea, according to the same reports, would be for him to take over after the tournament.
Several other names have also been linked to the role, but Scaloni’s profile has caught the attention of the club’s leadership. Despite the rumors, the Argentina coach recently stated that he is fully focused on the upcoming World Cup and not thinking about his future beyond the tournament.
