Garnacho is going to join Aston Villa. According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached between Aston Villa and Chelsea on loan with a buy clause to be mandatory under certain conditions.
The 22 year old joined Chelsea from Manchester United last year.
Well we can’t compare players across generations. In the past, talents get a system that nurturs them and managers who are patient with their progress. Di Maria’s peak didn’t come early in his career until he moved around clubs and gained experience from various managers and senior players; we used to call him headless chicken until he defined his character and identity and become a world class winger.
The more time pass, the more finance becomes a factor in every aspect of this sport, and things become difficult for new talents. Gone are the days when Ronaldinho spends hours of practice mentoring Messi and teach him all tricks. People values, time, and supporting others have changed, and so we can’t say look at Zanetti or Di Maria…..the new era dictates new type of players parallel to the shift occurs in football. Players are required to play more competitions, less rest days in between, restriction by technology such as VAR and referee’ camera view, hell even the world cup is heading to 64 teams format.
We won’t see legends like Maradona or Messi; even prospective, gifted kids won’t be practicing all day long on the street like their predessors when they have to spend enormous amount of time on iPhone or iPad daily. The game and player profile are shaped by factors of technology, economy, and societies.
Great talent. Hopefully he will play regularly and grow there. Emi and Emery are good to make him progress. I still have very high hope on him.

I really hope Emery can get the best out of him. He’s a confidence player and really needs the support of his manager. If he stays focused he can become a really good player.

Two questions have not been asked:
1) Why did FIFA appoint a European referee and VAR referee for the WC final?
2) How come Scaloni dragged injured and unfit players to the WC leaving great talents out there: Prestiani, Buendia, Soule, Parrone, etc. Even the ones he brought were left on the bench. Paz, Barco, Palacios combined and even if they haven’t established their rhythm with the team (as Scaloni justifies) still could do better job than injured and unfit players if played the final, at least they would do something and not being completely lame?
The second part of your question you know. Loyalty. It’s hard to get rid of players that have won everything the last 5 years. It’s also the reason he wants to leave. Because he knows his boys aren’t good enough any longer and he doesn’t have the heart to get rid of them. Prestianni, Echeverri, and a few others will not make a difference in the NT. 5’5” players get moved off the ball too easily unless your name is Messi, Xavi, or Iniesta. You really think Prestianni was the key to winning that final? Barco, Paz are far better and they didn’t get a sniff. Loyalty is great, and terrible sometimes.
I understand the loyalty factor, but I’m denoting that when some of those core players are injured and other unfit, young players with average impact would do better since they are healthy and have fresh legs, at least they can move the ball, or the least create distraction for the opponent. Also, if he’s loyal to his players, he wouldn’t let them suffer the pain to play while carrying severe injuries, and on top if that they would have zero impact.
That’s totally right. But Scaloni’s not the only one who does it. For example, Löw did the exact same thing in 2018 for the same reason.
Low had no choice considering the pipeline of talent Germany had, but Argentina is like a factory of footballers of all sorts, so the comparison is different. Besides, why didn’t Scaloni learned from these past examples, it’s no brainer, knowing whatever he showcase on field represents entire nation, fans across the globe, and above all Argentina and Messi legacy which should be represented in an optimal way. The responsibility of continuance and defending the crown should eclipses any contextual element like loyalty to winning team or keep the same family for safer mediocre results.
And there is the misconception my friend. That we are a factory of football players. Let’s look at the facts. Did we really replace Sorin, Zanetti, DiMaria? How does a factory not produce a world class back in decades? Or wingers? What we are is a great football nation that produces lots of very good players and the occasional superstar every 15 years or so. Messi, Maradona, Batistuta. This is because teams sell 17-18-20 year olds too early to cash in and they can’t develop on a European bench. Mastantuono and Echeverri the latest examples. Before that Alejo Veliz, Aaron Anselmino, and others. You can’t sell players to big clubs when they are still in their development stage. Keep your players at home. When they are ready, the world will know. Otherwise they never live up to the potential. And this loyalty business of Scaloni was foolish. He owed them nothing. He got them to multiple championships as their managers. Otamendi there was a joke. We are our own worst enemy at times.
