Ángel Di María paid tribute to Lionel Messi after his retirement from the Argentina national team.
Di María posted a picture with Lionel Messi on his Instagram, paying tribute to him. Messi and Di María won the World Cup, two Copa America trophies, a Finalissima and an Olympic gold medal together. Here is what Di María posted on his Instagram:
“I had the privilege of being born in your generation, of being able to enjoy watching you play football for so many years.
“Today, you close that door that none of us Argentines ever wanted to hear you say you were going to close. But that day has arrived, and today, like every Argentine, I want to say thank you, thank you so much for everything you did for our country. For taking our flag to the very top of the world.
“And I had the privilege of playing by your side for 18 years. Of being more than just a teammate, of sharing barbecues, teams, the national team, and so many other things together.
“I only have words of gratitude for you, for all the affection you have always shown me. Our flag will always fly at the very top thanks to you.
“I love you very much, my friend.
“The greatest of all time.”
