Argentina U20 national team in semi finals of U20 World Cup after 18 years

The Argentina U20 national team are back in the semi finals of the U20 World Cup for the first time in 18 years.

Diego Placente’s team won 2-0 against Mexico in the quarter finals and will play Colombia in the semi finals on Wednesday. This marks the first time that Argentina are in the semi finals of the U20 World Cup since 2007 where they won 3-0 against Chile.

The starting eleven for that match was the following:

Sergio Romero; Emiliano Insúa, Matías Cahais, Federico Fazio, Gabriel Mercado; Éver Banega, Claudio Yacob, Maximiliano Moralez; Ángel Di María, Sergio Agüero and Pablo Piatti

Ángel Di María, Claudio Yacob and Maximiliano Moralez scored the goals for Argentina. The team would go on to win the 2007 U20 World Cup, winning 2-1 against Czech Republic with Sergio Agüero and Mauro Zárate scoring.

Argentina have won the most U20 World Cup tournaments, winning it six times with the last time being in 2007 against Czech Republic in the final.
