Argentina U-17 lose 3-0 to Brazil in tense match with late incident

Argentina U-17 lost 3-0 to Brazil U-17 on matchday 4 of Group B in the South American U-17 Championship 2026, missing the chance to confirm qualification for the World Cup.

Brazil took control early and went into halftime with a two-goal lead. Riquelme scored twice in the first half, and Eduardo added a third late in the match to seal the result.

With this defeat, Argentina remains second in the group with six points, still ahead of Venezuela and Bolivia, but without securing a place in the final stage or the World Cup yet.

The match ended with tension on the field. After the final whistle, players from both teams were involved in a confrontation following provocations, and Argentina’s Tobías Goytia was sent off. He will miss the next match.

The 2026 South American U-17 Championship, held in Paraguay, grants seven qualification spots for the World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina will face Bolivia in the final group match, where they will look to secure their place in the next round and confirm qualification.
