Cristian Romero has spoken about the Argentina national team’s World Cup final.
Romero commented on Argentina’s World Cup final match against Spain and the theories surrounding the match. Speaking in an interview with Gastón Edul and Esteban Edul, here is what Romero had to say:
“A lot of things are said. Today, on social media, someone says something stupid and it all goes viral.
“The truth is that Spain did their things very well, we arrived with just enough. I don’t know if I would call it a miracle but it cost us physically throughout the tournament.
“We had too many players who barely made it, including myself. Those things don’t bother me, I’m calm. I gave everything until the last minute.
“After the match against England, I developed an Achilles tendon problem that I still have to this day. I was barely able to train on any of the days leading up to the final.
“I went into the match barely fit enough to play. I played the way I did after taking a couple of pills and receiving painkilling injections. My body just couldn’t take any more in the second half.
“It’s already frustrating enough to go into a match as important as a World Cup final when you’re not fully fit. It makes you angry, but you always want to be out there.
“Despite everything, I felt capable of playing, and I wanted to be there.”
