Ángel Di María has called Lionel Messi the greatest of all time over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Di María played with Lionel Messi with the Argentina national team and the Olympic team while also playing with Cristiano Ronaldo at club level. The Argentine was asked by Pollo Alvarez about Cristiano’s statements where he called himself the greatest player ever. Here is what Ángel Di María had to say:

“Cristiano calling himself the greatest player of all time? It doesn’t surprise me. I was with him for four years. He was always like that. He always made those kinds of statements, always tried to be the best. But well, he was born in the wrong generation because another one was born who was simply touched by the magic wand.

“The reality is shown in the numbers. One has eight Ballon d’Ors, the other five. That’s a huge difference. Being a World Cup champion is another big difference, as well as having two Copas América. There are many, many differences.

“And then, you see it in the matches also too, in every minute of every game. One plays as if he’s in his backyard. That’s just how it is.

“But well, Cris is like that too. He’s always spoken that way. He’s always been the same. For me, Leo is the best in the world and the best in history, without a doubt.”
