Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo RULLI relegated to Real Sociedad bench

44

It’s been a week of mixed emotions for Geronimo RULLI.

The former Estudiantes goalkeeper hasn’t had the best start of the season. He’s made several goalkeeping mistakes yet despite that, he has found himself in Lionel SCALONI’s Argentina squad. Following a 3-0 win against Guatemala, RULLI started for Sociedad and played rather poorly yet was included in the latest Argentina team which was announced on Friday.

Fast forward to Saturday and he found himself on the bench for Real Sociedad as they lost 1-0 at home to Valencia. There were rumors a few weeks back that RULLI would be dropped from the Argentina team in place of Boca Juniors goalkeeper Esteban ANDRADA. However, ANDRADA would later get injured and that kept the door open for RULLI.

Roberto PEREYRA of Watford and Rodrigo DE PAUL of Udinese are both expected to be included in the latest Argentina team.

Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI has put off announcing his list of players for next month’s friendly matches due to injury problems. With the team to be announced on Friday, Cesar Luis MERLO of TyC Sports is reporting that Roberto PEREYRA and Rodrigo DE PAUL will both be late inclusions into the squad.

Both players are in fine form for their clubs and would add a lot to the team. PEREYRA was part of the 2015 Copa America squad while this would be Rodrigo DE PAUL’s first call-up for his country.

Gerardo MARTINO to Argentina or MEXICO, Jorge SAMPAOLI to Atlanta United

Gerardo “Tata” MARTINO is rumored to be leaving his current job at Atlanta United to either coach the Argentina National Team or the Mexican National Team with Jorge SAMPAOLI coaching Atlanta United.

According to a report from TyC Sports, MARTINO will step down as coach of MLS club Atlanta United. As we reported a few days ago, Tata has been linked not only to the Argentina job but the Mexico one as well. AFA president Claudio TAPIA has spoken in the past about wanting to bring Tata back as coach of the Argentina National Team but with the Mexico FA getting involved, it could make it more difficult.

Should he step down as Atlanta United coach, former Argentina National Team manager Jorge SAMPAOLI is rumored to be taking over that position in the MLS.
