Italian Serie A Matchday 1: Preview

The Italian Serie A Matchday 1 kicks off this weekend and here’s our Argentinian season preview along with what will be a weekly preview of the players in action.

There’s a total of 28 Argentinians this season in the Serie A (we have yet to add Rodrigo PALACIO to our list in the Player Database section). Of course the number of Argentinians can still change with the transfer market not yet closing. Out of the 27, 14 of them have played for the senior Argentina National Team. Here’s the full list:

Argentinian Players in the Italian Serie A

Only one match this weekend does not involve Argentinian players with the rest all having at least one Argentinian in the team squad. For last season’s champions Juventus, they open their campaign at home to Santiago COLOMBATTO’s Cagliari. The big match(es) of the weekend could be that of potential title contenders Inter (with Mauro ICARDI on the Argentina team) hosting the former River Plate boys German PEZZELLA and Giovanni SIMEONE of Fiorentina. The other big match would be that of Atalanta against AS Roma.

Local players to be called up to Argentina team

Hey everyone,

The next two South American World Cup Qualifiers are getting closer. For Argentina, the first match is against Uruguay in Montevideo (August 31st), and the second game is against Venezuela in Buenos Aires (September 5th). We already know who the foreign based players are, but now Infobae from Argentina is reporting already that there will be 5 local based players chosen by Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI. They are the following:

Local players rumored of being called for Argentina:

Pablo PEREZ and Darío BENEDETTO of Boca Juniors, Ignacio FERNANDEZ and Javier PINOLA of River Plate & Lautaro ACOSTA of Lanús. This means that Lucas ALARIO has lost his spot for now. We already reported yesterday that there were rumors of the Boca Juniors duo of being called-up to the team.

What do you guys think of these call ups from our local league? I think these are all really great and useful players.  I was expecting at least one more defender though.

VAMOS ARGENTINA!!

Some big competition for the two Argentinians who in all likelyhoodm, will not win the award. There is one more Argentinian involved in all of this and that is Diego MARADONA. The 1986 World Cup hero is part of the pannel who came up with the list.

Santiago ASCACIBAR closing in on VfB Stuttgart move

German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart are closing in on a move for Santiago ASCACIBAR.

Estudiantes de la Plata have reportedly received an offer of €8 million for the midfielder and all signs point to a transfer taking place. Per a report by TyC Sports, Estudiantes have apparently accepted the offer and the contract will be signed within the next few days. As we reported earlier during the week, the club had received an offer for ASCACIBAR from an unknown Bundesliga team for the player. The contract would be for five years.

From Zenit to VfB Stuttgart

It was widely being reported last week that there was interest from Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg in bringing in the midfielder but that deal has since fallen through. It all looks set for him to join the Bundesliga team.

Boca Juniors duo Pablo PEREZ and Dario BENEDETTO could be called

Boca Juniors duo Pablo PEREZ and Dario BENEDETTO could be called up to the Argentina National Team.

According to La Nacion, Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI will, in the upcoming days, meet with the two players and are expected to be called-up for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches against Uruguay and Venezuela. The two have never been in the Argentina squad. Speaking a few days ago about his fellow team mate, Pablo PEREZ had this to say about BENEDETTO:

Pablo PEREZ on Dario BENEDETTO:

“BENEDETTO is made for the National Team. He’s playing at a high level and not just because he scores goals. His start at Boca wasn’t good, tactically speaking but he did score goals.”

Last week, Jorge SAMPAOLI announced his list for Argentina’s two World Cup Qualifying matches with the big news being that Juventus striker Gonzalo HIGUAIN has been left out of the team.
