Ángel Correa scored for Tigres in their 2-1 loss against Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup.

Correa made it five goals in the Leagues Cup but they were eliminated in the quarter finals against Inter Miami. Lionel Messi did not take part in the match for Inter Miami and he was left out of the team for the Leagues Cup match.

With Inter Miami leading 1-0, coach Javier Mascherano was red carded at half time due to his behavior towards the official. At 1-0, the ball fell to Ángel Correa in the penalty area and his effort beat Óscar Ustari to draw Tigres level.

Inter Miami would get a second goal and win 2-1 to qualify for the semi finals of the Leagues Cup.

Lionel Messi did not take part in the match for Inter Miami. Rodrigo De Paul and Tadeo Allende started for Javier Mascherano’s team with Tomás Avilés and Marcelo Weigandt coming on as substitutes.

Nahuel Guzmán started for Tigres with Guido Pizarro as the coach.

Mateo Silvetti set to join Inter Miami from Newell’s Old Boys

As Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami prepares to face Tigres in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals, the club is reportedly on the verge of securing another young Argentine talent: Mateo Silvetti. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old winger from Newell’s Old Boys is close to joining the MLS side in a deal that has been in the works for months.

Silvetti, who made his debut for Newell’s in 2024 and has since accumulated 37 appearances and six goals, had been sidelined due to a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He was medically cleared on August 11 and was expected to leave the club, which is why coach Cristian Fabbiani had not been counting on him in recent lineups.

While financial details remain undisclosed, local media in Rosario suggest that 80% of Silvetti’s rights had already been sold to an investment group, reportedly for around $4 million. His contract with Newell’s was set to expire in December 2025.

Silvetti is no stranger to Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano, having previously played under him in Argentina’s youth national teams. If finalized, the transfer would add Silvetti to an increasingly Argentine-heavy squad that includes Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, Tomás Avilés, Gonzalo Luján, Tadeo Allende, Baltasar Rodríguez, Marcelo Weigandt, and Oscar Ustari. The team also features players of Argentine heritage born abroad, such as Rocco Ríos Novo, Benjamín Cremaschi, and Santiago Morales.

In addition to Silvetti, Inter Miami are reportedly in talks to sign defender Gonzalo Piovi from Cruz Azul, though negotiations are ongoing due to economic differences. Mascherano has publicly acknowledged the club’s interest.
