Edgardo BAUZA talks DYBALA, full backs and more

Edgardo BAUZA took to the airways to discuss his recent trip to Europe.

Argentina National Team coach was on the radio in Argentina where he discussed his recent trip to Europe, his chat with Jose MOURINHO, the full backs for the National Team and more. Here’s what he had to say:

The players in England:

“I spoke with yesterday MOURINHO for 20 minutes. I asked him about the players and how they were doing. It was a good chat. He spoke about the present and about every single one of his players. ROJO has done well and helped give MOURINHO results when he has played as a center back for Manchester United. I didn’t push for MOURINHO to play ROMERO, hah!”

“I was able to see and chat with the majority of the coaches of the players currently on the Argentina National Team. I had coffee with Marcos ROJO and Ramiro FUNES MORI.”

The Argentine players in Europe:

“Regarding those I wasn’t able to see, I spoke to them on the phone. With this trip, it has better helped me understand the players whey travel to Buenos Aires.”

“For me, Paulo DYBALA is a player who should play 30 meters close to goal but Juventus has him playing further back.”

“FAZIO is having a very good season with AS Roma. He’s upped his level and we’re following him.”

The U20’s and full back situation:

“Yesterday, we had to watch the Argentina U20 team on the internet because it wasn’t on television. It made me very happy to watch them qualify.”

“The number of players who will get called-up for the matches against Chile and Bolivia will surely be between 20 and 30 players.”

“Today, our two left backs are Marcos ROJO and Emmanuel MAS. Nicolas TAGLIAFICO has had a very good year but in terms of world class, he’s not at that level. We’re still following him.”

Manchester City players:

“Regarding the Manchester City players, I spoke with Sergio AGUERO as well as Nicolas OTAMENDI, Pablo ZABALETA and Willy CABALLERO. One thing that’s for sure is that for the matches against Chile and Bolivia, I will call-up Sergio AGUERO.”

Lionel MESSI, Manuel LANZINI, DI MARIA and Papu GOMEZ score

Lionel MESSI, Angel DI MARIA, Manuel LANZINI and Papu GOMEZ produced the goals in England, Spain, Italy and France. All of them great goals in their own right.

Argentina goals from four different countries in Europe as Lionel MESSI, Angel DI MARIA, Manuel LANZINI and Alejandro GOMEZ were the four Argentine goalscorers on Saturday. Lionel MESSI from close range, DI MARIA a free kick, LANZINI from long range and GOMEZ a steal on the goal.

In Spain, Lionel MESSI (not really a surprise) continued his goalscoring streak as he scored for Barcelona in their 6-0 win against Alaves. That goal was MESSI’s 17th goal of the season in La Liga.

In France, Angel DI MARIA scored a fantastic free kick goal for PSG in their 3-0 win against Girondins Bordeaux. Worth nothing that Angel DI MARIA’s PSG play host to Lionel MESSI and Javier MASCHERANO’s FC Barcelona in the Champions League this week.

In England, Manuel LANZINI scored yet another goal from long range for West Ham as they drew 2-2 against West Brom. Since former West Ham star player PAYET has left the club, LANZINI has had 4 starts, scoring two goals and having three assists as he continues to impress.

In Italy, the man of the hour Alejandro “Papu” GOMEZ continued his excellent form for Atalanta as he scored in their 3-1 win against Palermo. The goal was his 9th in Serie A this season for Atalanta.

Argentina pick up win, qualify for U20 World Cup

Luck was clearly on Claudio UBEDA’s team on Saturday as everything went their way and Argentina picked up the win and qualified for the U20 World Cup.

A win alone would not have guaranteed Argentina a spot at the U20 World Cup later this year in South America. The kids needed a win against a Venezuelan team who was impressing and for Brazil to drop points against last place Colombia. That’s exactly what happened. Two goals from Lautaro MARTINEZ sealed a 2-0 win against Venezuela while Brazil dropped points and drew 0-0 against Colombia.

Argentina, along with champions Uruguay, Ecuador and Venezuela all qualified for the tournament in South Korea while Brazil and Colombia miss out. Lautaro MARTINEZ’s two goals equalled him as the tournament’s top goalscorer with fellow team mate Marcelo TORRES as both received the trophy for top goal scorer.

Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Torres lift the top goalscorer trophy as Argentina pick up the win and qualify for the U20 World Cup.

Sub 20: Argentina vs Venezuela

Hey everyone,

We’ve made it to the last match today.  Unfortunately, the sub 20 Argentina national team have put themselves in a difficult predicament in this Sudamericano Tournament.  They must beat Venezuela today with a difference of 5 goals in order to directly qualify for this summer’s World Cup in S. Korea.  If this does not happen they will have to rely on today’s other match results.  One possibility is that they win and hope that Brazil doesn’t beat Colombia.  Another possibility is that Ecuador gets blown out by Uruguay. If they tie against Venezuela, Argentina will only qualify if Colombia beats Brazil by a 5 goal difference.

How did Argentina come to this?  We are supposed to be Argentina, a powerhouse in the world of football. In my opinion, it’s not the kids fault at all.  It’s a structural and political problem in Argentina and with AFA.  This is a topic that needs to be discussed at a later time as right now as the focus should be on just qualifying.  Or maybe not qualifying is a good thing? Maybe it will finally make shake things up in AFA and force them to make serious changes.  Elections are coming up again soon.  Let’s hope they don’t mess it up again!
