“It had been a bad year, I was not enjoying it, I had spent six very hard qualifying matches in which, on a personal level, I was not feeling well. I had gone through difficult moments, a lot of things come to your mind, I needed to talk about it with the players, with my family, with the directors…

“I needed to talk about what I felt, to take some time, from November to March there were no matches. The coaching staff understood that. I could see that I was not at 100%. I felt it and I had to say it. Why? Because maybe months later I was not in a position to continue. It is a place that needs to be 100% because the players require it, the national team requires it and because things were coming. The Copa América was coming up. I was not well, I needed to say it”

2

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María, stating that they are irreplaceable.

Lionel Scaloni spoke in an interview with Clank.media and he was asked about Messi and Di María. Here is what he had to say:

“They are irreplaceable. They are not players that can be replaced, it is impossible. There is no chance, both Fideo and Leo are unique players.

“In the case of Fideo, we will not look for a replacement. It would be a mistake to look for a player who can do the same as him, he doesn’t exist.

“It is true that he gave us width both on the right and on the left. We will try to find a player who can provide that width. Then the 1v1, understanding the play and getting out of the galley incredible plays only he had it.

“I’m not saying that the team should reset itself, but why not play differently because Ángel is not there”.
